Turing Text into a Hatch

I would like to know if it is possible to turn a text into a hatch. An example is branding on bubble gum wrappers. If it is possible, how do i do it?

IF this is a one off type deal i might use array and express tools to 'simulate' a hatch. I this video i array the text then i explode the array and explode the text using express tools. It takes a few mins to clean it up so like i said if this is a one off thing it might work but i would look into other solutions if this is something you will be doing with any kind of regularity.

Assuming you're using a solid text like Arial, you can use the "Explode Text" command under the express tools (or type "txtexp"). This will remove the solid fill from the text and provide solid boundaries for easy hatching.

That will still leave the characters broken and require many hatch fill points. See my link above for the full solution, where creating a REGION and UNION of the text will allow you to fill the entire object at once with Hatch > Add: Select Objects.

I took your question and decided to illustrate some features with a Screencast video for you.

I start with a piece of text and use the Express Tools- Explode Text to get the outlines. (It isn't very clean but will get the concept I think).

Next I turned the outlines into a single block.

Next, with Express Tools- SuperHatch I use the block to create my hatch pattern for my gum wrapper.
