Use the LAYER command.

Find the NEW GROUP FILTER button. Top left, little button.

Use it to create groups and filter them.

I am building a solid model of a 4V oblate (flattened) geodesic sphere which has 44 different struts (360 total). There will be much work to be done on each strut and more yet with the hubs. It is very difficult to see individual objects when all are turned on so I have placed each strut on its own layer. I would like to know if I can group the layers some way that would allow turning all struts, or temporary groupings of struts, off or on without haveng to go in and click on each one in the layer menu.

Using Layer Filters and Layer States you can accomplish this. You may need to visit the help menu for details to accomplish the task.
