Agreed, I can understand that, and there are some threads here which handles cases like "saved it, closed it and when opening this file next day seems to have not saved all changes", but (for me) there is no global rule when this happens. What you can do is to verify you have installed the latest AutoCAD service pack, your network traffic is working well (if stored in network), your server does not have a antivirus software that blocks DWG-files (I would disable av-scanning of DWG file at all).
