Really depends on your requirement. But either way I would create separate Page Setups for full size 24x36 sheet vs 11x17 sheets.

Since 11x17 is not half size to 24x36 you have the following options with the Page Setups:

1. Plot to Fit which will automatically reduce the x & y scales differently but will fit the drawing to the paper size desired. I always prefer not to use FIT to scale the drawing down because things get stretched in different directions then you cannot get an accurate scale output.

2. Plot to a factor that makes sense and will allow the 24x36 sheet to all show up on the 11x17 sheet. A custom plot scale would then be something like 1 units = 2.25

24 / 2.25 = 10.66 & 36 / 2.25 = 16 or 10.66x16 sheet

So the resulting sheet will end up with a bit of a wider border with the length compared to the width. Then I would always include a graphic scale so one can use it as a reference tool to scale the objects on the sheet.

3. Create a completely different sheet layout with a 11x17 title block which means you'll have to replicate any changes made on the 24x36 sheet onto the duplicate 11x17 layout.

I'm currently using a sheet set given by AutoCAD to design a title block. How do I scale down my title block along with the paper when I go into page setup and change the paper size from 24 x 36 to 17 x 11? Do I have to do the math and use the scale command? If you have any insight, please let me know.

Thank you

To avoid any scaling issues with 11 x 17 prints or PDF's. We only use 22 x 34 paper sizes on drawing sets. That allows for a perfect 1/2 size - 11 x 17 (printed at 1=2). Sometimes an agency will require 24 x 36 - not very often.

In the rare occasion that we need to plot 24 x 36 paper sizes to 11 x 17 we did one to "fit" then rounded up to the nearest tenth for the scale. Example: 1=2.2 when plotting. We may add a note about Not To Scale on the 11 x 17 output of 24 x 36 layouts.

Cheers.

While code for different government agencies often require 24×36 many engineers and surveyors simply draw 22×34 and plot them on 24×36 paper as while minimum borders are required I've never seen a maximum border requirement!

For different size sheets, you will need additional title blocs adjusted to the correct size. Scaling a title block does not give the desired result. Not everything should be scaled. Things like text should remain the same size.
