Is that Floor a separate drawing from other floors? If so, it does sound like you may just have the current-entity or new-Hatch color set to blue. If the current-entiy setting is the problem, than it won't be just Hatch patterns -- draw a Line on that red Layer and it will also be blue. If this is true in some Layouts but not all within the same drawing, I don't have any ideas.

Assuming the current-entity setting is the issue, pick ByLayer in the Color pull-down in the Properties box with nothing selected. Or, CECOLOR is the System Variable [the CE is for Current Entity], if you want to set it otherwise. You can type that as if it's a command, and answer ByLayer, or you can paste this in at the Command: line:

(setvar 'cecolor "BYLAYER")

IN NEWER VERSIONS [I'm not sure when this came in] there's also an HPCOLOR System Variable specifically for new Hatch patterns, that can be set to override CECOLOR, so check into that, too. You can set that to ByLayer even if CECOLOR isn't, or vice versa, or set it to "." to go with whatever CECOLOR says. You can change it in the same ways as CECOLOR, just substituting the different name, or in the Color pull-down in the Hatch and Gradient dialog box.

My job is to hatch floorplans and correspond the hatches to a color coded legend.

For one floor of this building, whenever I hatch it defaults to blue even though the active layer is red.

There is another active layer that is blue and the outline layer is blue. Could this be the issue?

On top of that whenever I do manage to correspond the red hatch to the red active layer, when I try to

hatch with the blue active layer for the next room, it defaults to the red layer from before.

Simply changing the hatch color in the hatch editor works, but I'd like to keep the hatchings organized by layer

for future usage and groupings.

Can anyone help me out?

Look at the Properties Palette when nothing is selected, is the Color set to By Layer or Blue?

If hatch is SOLID, it has Swatch and it doesn't have to go with bylayer.

Hey, late to the party here but found out how I fixed this problem for myself.

My CAD was only showing blue even after changing layers. I went to hatch settings ('H' , 'T') under settings there's an options tab in the bottom right, where is says layer, change that setting to say 'Use Current' and it sorted the issue for me.

Hope this helps
