topic No Shift Click? in AutoCAD Forum

I recently updated to AutoCad 2016 when completing a full wipe and refresh of Windows 7 on my PC. I had previously been running AutoCad 2015 without issue for just about the last year or so. When I draft, I use a Logitech G700s mouse which allows me to map commands to the programmable buttons. Probably the one command that I use the most is trim, which I have mapped as "TR, Enter, Enter" to allow me to modify all objects on the drawing. I typically use this command for extend as well by holding shift when selecting a line, however I have found that I can no longer shift select any line or object, not only when in the trim command, but also within other commands as well. The extend command does still work, and so does using the shift key for other things like capitalizing text as an example, but I am frustrated because I have gotten used to my technique, and it slows me down anytime I need to find an alternate way to do something.

Google searches have turned up results similar to my issue, but they all surround the Raster Design Tools add-on that I don't have. Attempting the fixes described in the search results (running the commands MAPIOPTIONS or IOPTIONS to bring up a specific option menu) do nothing the remedy the situation.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I have a project that I need to complete this weekend, preferably without too much more frustration. I don't know if it is relevant or not, but I also do not use ribbons and set up a custom work environment in pseudo "classic" mode featuring the old style toolbars instead. I had AutoCad 2015 configured this way as well, and never seemed to have an issue, but now I am wondering something changed in the CUI workspace customization that I may have overlooked?

Thanks.

Hi,

just to understand this correct: the <SHIFT> key does not work while TRIM command is active (to revert the function from trim to extend), but it's working in all other commands. Is that correct?

Question 1 is: what happens when you have <SHIFT> pressed, does the command exit or write some error message to the command line or does the command do a trim (so the <SHIFT> key is something like ignored)?

I can't imagine that this is something within the CUI as your mouse sends this like typed in using the keyboard. The question is now: what happens when you start the trim command not with the mouse button, but using the keyboard, does that work then as estimated?

Have you tried to

a) dock the commandline (instead of the default one-line-mode)

b) change dynamic input (<F12>)

Alfred,

Shift does not seem to work for any command, not just trim. It does work as I had mentioned when typing text into the command line to capitalize text. I mentioned trim because it is the command I use most frequently with the shift click. I also cannot seem to shift to deselect either. From what I can tell, pressing shift in a command just does nothing; it does not exit the command or act as a shortcut for another command, nor do I get any error messages. I did try inputing commands by typing it in via the keyboard instead of using my mouse shortcut buttons, and I get the same result. As far as dynamic input goes, I usually have it turned on, and it has been on through this whole experience.

Can you explain to me what you mean by docking the command line? I have moved it around and I did place it and lock its position when I set up my "classic" environment. However, for testing I did have the same problems when I switched back to the default "drafing and annotation" workspace.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi,

>> Shift does not seem to work for any command

Wow, I would now try to disable the mouse driver, let the mouse work like a simple 2button/1wheel and see if that happens again.

Maybe disconnecting this mouse, connect anohter one (simple mouse) and reboot the system could also be worth to be tried.

At least I never heard yet that the <SHIFT> key does not work.

>> As far as dynamic input goes, I usually have it turned on, and it has been on through this whole experience.

Try to turn it off just to isolate the issue.

>> what you mean by docking the command line?

Look to these 2 screenshots, the first one is the newer style (not as stable) and the 2nd one is the one I prefer (docked) as it's more stable.

Bad idea: have you tried both <SHIFT> keys (left and right on your keyboard).

Other question: do you also have a programmable keyboard or a standard one without any special drivers for key-programming?

Problem Solved, turned out to be a keyboard and mouse driver issue. I use Autocad on a laptop, and found that I had no issue with the internal trackpad, only with the Logitech G700s mouse I use for drafting. After reinstalling the drivers everything started working again. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate your efforts
