Hi,

I couldn't find a post on this through searching, but I apologize if this is already a topic.

A couple of the computers in my office are having an issue where, when a user goes to move a block, it will automatically snap to the origin, even when the origin is not on the screen, and when there are other object snaps present. I haven't been able to recreate this problem on my own computer, and we are all on the same build of AutoCAD 2016. Is there a setting somewhere that could have been accidentally changed on someone's computer that has caused this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Object snaps do not lock onto the origin. They lock onto objects. Snap can be set to coordinate intervals.

I can think of two possibilities.

1) The person who created the blocks being moved did not consider the insertion point prompt when creating the block. Therefore the insertion point is at 0,0 far away from the object being moved (osnap: insertion).

2) The snap mode has been set to an interval larger than the screen itself, a common prank, but an easy beginner mistake.

My first instinct was that the blocks were set up poorly too, but since I couldn't recreate it, and my coworker couldn't remember which drawings/blocks it was happening with specifically, I couldn't investigate much further than just guessing. I'll tell him to check his snap mode, though. Thank you!

This looks like a bug to me. Same thing just started happening to a drawing of mine. If I try to move something on a particular sheet, the cursor snaps to 0,0 for base location and won't budge from there. Inserting a new object does the same thing. Trying to enter a base or offset at the command prompt or dynamic prompt doesn't work. Even selecting a stretch point on an object causes the cursor to snap to 0,0. Other layout pages in the same drawing are fine.

Turn off "snap to insertion". Most likely you are working with xrefs or blocks that have insertion points to your origin.

Hit F9 to toggle snap off and see if anything changes. If so, use the snap command to set the snap interval to the grid dimensions you want.
