"Shift" to add to selection

A machinist friend uses acad for his cnc.. his employees and himself are, less than knowledgeable about acad.. he constantly calls me to fix settings that have mysteriously changed..

Today, i couldnt fathom how this setting changed..

In the options dialogue box, the "shift to add objects" box was checked, under the "selection" tab..

Is there any way to toggle between this option without opening this dialog box?

Thanks in advance.. im kinda stumped on this..

Yes, you can toggle that using the system variable PICKADD 🙂

Why do you only ever give him one fish, show him how to fish instead!
Backup&Restore .cuix with a ready-made workspace,
a profile (.arg export and import)
or the big package: Export Settings / Import settings

The answer of Vinodkl is good if you want to change the setting by commandline,

but if you asking "How can they change the satting accidentally?" :

1. The use of additional functions, such as those often used when it comes to machines (laser, watercut, CNC...),

often people just use badly programmed tools.

So im not familiar with his 2018 version, and after reading yalls comments, I went back.. and sure enough, the properties dialogue box was on the screen.. with the toggle button for the "pickadd" feature.. best guess, someone accidentally "clicked" on it, and switched it..

He knows how to fish! Lol.. he just doesn't know.. he doesn't know how.. I can't relate ACAD to fishing in this circumstance.. fishing is simple.. lol.. comparatively..
