i too have this issue: in my JPG example,
a wavy (3 arcs) magenta polyline is on the top surface of a triangular base "cut from thick wood sheet"
(base has a red top edge, green bottom edge) - this wavy magenta polyline is my path for sweeping.
My aim was to create a solid ramp down from the magenta path, all maximally sloping in the X direction,
not perpendicular to the path, even if my first drawings anchored the profile orthogonal to the
midpoint of the wavy path - i've tried positioning the profile over the path in different places
in case the start conditions were being misinterpreted.

The small closed red polyline is made of a sharp triangle with a square added to its shortest end.

i cannot sweep this red polyline profile along the magenta wavy path - msg:

Modeling Operation Error:

Unable to create a valid body because a lateral edge starts off of the profile in the opposite direction of the sweep direction.

But i CAN sweep a triangle, square, rectangle, circle drawn in the same plane as my red polyline,

and i can see the effect of Base point, Alignment options in those profiles...

(my base point is where the square meets the top of the hypotenuse and Alignment is No).
For a laugh, i recreated the closed polyline profile using lines in different directions! - no use.
I can create other bizarre profile shapes from straight lines and sweep those, just not the profile i need...
except I did get some sweeping earlier, but only perpendicular to the path, regardless of Alignment...
i think i smell a UCS issue - but why do other profiles work?!
Help!
