topic Linetype scale in AutoCAD Forum

Hi Community,

I have a number of lines in model space, the colour, linetype and lineweight of which are set to "BY LAYER". The linetype scale for all the lines has been manually set to 0.25. The linetype is CENTREX2. MSLTSCALE is set to 1 & PSLTSCALE is set to 0. Despite this, these lines to do not display the same in Paper Space as they do in Model Space. In Model Space they display as a Long Dash - Short Dash - Long Dash whereas in Paper Space they display as a straight line and the detail is not apparent until I completely zoom in. If I set PSLTSCALE to 1, the space between the dashes is apparent, but much larger than in Model Space - and still does not match Model Space. If I'm not mistaken, PSLTSCALE should be set to 0 to display linetypes as they appear in Model Space? The annotation scale in Model Space and Paper Space is set to 1:50 and the Display Scale of the Viewport is set to 1:100.

I can usually achieve uniformity between the linetype scale is Model Space and Paper Space by setting MSLTSCALE to 1 and PSLTSCALE to 0.

Any help or general advice related to the matter would be greatly appereciated.

File is attached for reference.

Many Thanks!

<STRIKE>What happens if you set psltscale = 1double click in the Paperspace viewport and type ltscale and set to .25 and regen?</STRIKE>

Never mind, I have forgotten too much about AutoCAD.

That displays the line better in paper space but obviously changes it in model space. I still can't achieve uniformity between model and paper spaces. I need to have LTSCALE set to 1 so as not to alter the display of other objects in the file....

If PSLTSCALE = 0, then the VP scale is not a factor in the non continuous linetype display. that is to say, unless the VP scale is 1:1, the lines will appear different in the view port.

Set PSLTSCALE = 1, and set LTS = 10, if loading linetypes from ACAD.LIN. In your sample, with each object linetype scale = 2, then an LTS = 5 will acheive the same appearance.

Either way, keep PSLTSCALE = 1 so AutoCAD will maintain the scaling regardless of VP scale.

Scott

Why should LTSCALE = 10? I have a number of blocks in the drawing which I don't want to alter and if I set the LTSCALE = 10 they do not display correctly (dashed lines show as continous) both in Paper and Model Space. I understand why PSLTSCALE should = 1, but is it not better to always have LTSCALE = 1 so when objects such as blocks are imported into the file they will display properly. I have got everything looking correct in PaperSpace by setting PSLTSCALE = 1. The dashed lines within my blocks look fine and display identical to model space. However the centre lines i was originally concerned with are still not the same as in Model Space. The LTSCALE of these is overridden to 0.1. Is there no way to achieve uniformity with linetype scales in both spaces. Thank you for your answer though, it has clarified some things for me!

Furthermore, I have another drawing where the exact opposite is occurring...
Dashed lines in paper space will only display correctly at the same scale as shown in model space when PSLTSCALE = 0. Again overall LTSCALE = 1 and MSLTSCALE = 1. Very confusing....???

I noticed that the "measurement" is set to "1 = metric" while the imperial linetype file is loaded to your drawing.

You need to ensure that what units system you use.

FYI acad.lin is an imperial linetype file while acadiso.lin is a metric linetype file.

HTH
