topic User still has excel open even after AutoCAD drawing is closed in AutoCAD Forum

Our company uses Excel files to put in different kinds of loads (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) and this is the scenario.

One of us opens an AutoCAD file with a linked object (We will call him person 'a'). Person 'a' has no problem opening the drawing. Then person 'a' closes the drawing, but not AutoCAD, and continues with their work.

Person 'b' will try to open up the same drawing after person 'a' closes it, and we get a message from Excel.

"exceldocument.xlsx is locked for editing by 'Person 'a''. Open 'Read-Only' or click 'Notify' to open read-only and receive notification when the document is no longer in use."

So person 'a' has to close out of AutoCAD completely and check to make sure that Excel is also closed out completely before person 'b' can open the drawing and edit the linked Excel objects. Now, if we do not need to edit the linked Excel objects, this is not a problem. We can still open the drawing and edit the AutoCAD drawing. However, each time, if we do not close out AutoCAD every time and doublecheck to make sure the Excel is also closed, no one else can edit the linked files.

Is there a setting or a way around this so we do not need to close out of AutoCAD every time we open a drawing with a linked Excel object?

P.S. One of our employees, when we shutdown at the end of the day, is asked by Excel if they want to save 'x' number of files that they have opened for the day. Usually, it is about 20.

Thanks. If you need more detail, please let me know.
