Is there a way to have the distance command display in inches, while the drawing commands take measurements in feet and inches?

You can create a custom Distance command using Autolisp similar to this

Decimal inches, or fractional inches? It will involve (rtos (getvar 'distance) X Y), with X being 2 if you want decimal inches, or 5 if you want fractional, and with Y being the precision level. It could be written into a special definition of DIST that would report the way you want.
