Hi,

to be honest, these drawing (I only took the smaller one, 3DS reports 9 mio polygons, 6 mio vertices after cleanup!) is too complex for daily work with AutoCAD. You might open them and modify some small items, but do the work with Revit as this can handle that mass of objects quite faster than AutoCAD will be able to do that.

That is nothing bad with your installation or with your AutoCAD, the project is just too big.

Hi. This is a critical issue, working on a large project. This is not the first time though. Whenever I load large .dwg files lets say above 20MB, the lag is making it impossible to move about in the model. Even in Wireframe. Worth mentioning that the models are of buildings, large ones. airports e.g. in 3D.

I thought it were my laptop that was the issue, Lenovo W540 i7 2,7GHz, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro K1100M Win7 pro.

So we bought in a stationary Lenovo K450e i7 3,6GHz, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX970, Win 8,1, AutoCAD sp1

Still have the samme issues. What is the problem, how do I solve it??

Any help much appriciated.

Hi,

>> the lag is making it impossible to move about in the model

Can you describe exactly what makes anything slow?

Is it just moving the cursor over the model (then it might be all variables with *SELECTION* in the name like SELECTIONCYCLING, SELECTIONEFFECT, SELECTIONPREVIEW, ...)

Or is it when moving the model on the display with commands line PAN, ZOOM, ORBIT ... then it might be depending on settings within GRAPHICSCONFIG, toogle the switches in that dialog and see if something changes then (a restart of AutoCAD might be necessary to really get the graphic card into that new mode.

But it might also be possible that you have multiple graphic cards built in and the wrong one is used ... therefor please upload a screenshot from the GRAPHICSCONFIG dialog.

It might also depend on the drawing structure ... can you share one of the drawings and describe some steps you feel AutoCAD is doing them too slow?

All situations you describe are correct. Lag and unresponsive in all situations, if i try to rotate the model it will crash autoCAD. Entering commands is slow, moving cursor is slow. This is not happening in models i make from scratch myself, but then again I`m not making large files. But I suspect that the common denominator is that the files I try to open in AutoCAD has been exportet from Revit.

The attachement "Orbit" is a model that takes AutoCad about 1minute to Orbit 360degrees.

thanks for the reply

If i turn off all unnecessary layers and copy paste the model into a new window, it is somewhat faster, zooming in and out is seemless. But other functions is still at an unacceptable level.

Can the problem be that the dwg file originates from a revit format? I think maybe so, because I`we taken out many layers, the file has gone from 71MB to 11MB (which is a size I`m often working with) I still experience the same trubbles.

I guess there we have to start.

The screenshot you showed does not give me any informations about the objects you have. That's why I asked if it's possible to get the DWG file ... that gives us the possibility to look into the objects and how the drawiwng is structured.
