Hi all

just wondering if you have similar experiences as myself.

you start a new job or project and they ask you what you need. you specify the latest version of AutoCAD, min 16G of ram and a certain processor min.

some IT guy hears you need AutoCAD and a machine to run it.

he asks some person if you are doing 3D, they say no... so they reccomend LT. if you are lucky you may get full version.

they look up the min requirements for AutoCAd / AutoCAD LT and give you a pc with 2-4gig of ram and an average processor.

later you find yourself at work xreffing in architectural drawings, importing PDF overlays or a google satelite image of your site and whalah... it freezes or crashes.

you call your trusty IT guy and state you need more ram/ full version/workstation.

they say. "oh but yourt not doing 3d"..

when talk is ever made of the graphics card, they say " but your not doing 3D"

you end up settling for 8gig more of ram put in and a folder full of frozen or crash report screen shots in your pictures directory.

how do we end this merry go round?

Tell the IT guys that minimum requirements are only to get AutoCAD running. If you need to use it for real work, you need a computer with bigger power.

Show them this link for recommended hardware: http://autodesk.com/hardware

Hi,

There is a salesperson which has to go to customers to make his sells.

His district has a size of about 50miles (radius).

The minimum requirement to get this distance done is a bicycle or a horse, but wouldn't he have more success if he uses a car, can't he visit then more customers each day and so make more business?

Another simple story or question could be: your IT guy has to bring you your workstation. the minimum requirement to get the boxes upstairs would be to use the stairs ... or does he use the elevator (and so he would be more efficient)?
