Creating a new line type

I am still learning AutoCAD. In my line types - I have Gas, Hot water supply line types. I want to create line Types for HW Return, Chilled W. S & R.

I tried Design Center and tried to copy line Type and Layer from another drawing. It lets me copy but will not let me paste them to my drawing.

I am just wondering whether I could edit the lines I have and create a new line type. I tried to create a new line type. But I do not what happened to those lines.I want use continuous line for supply with letters and Dashed lines for return pipes with letters.

Will some body give a little detailed description how I could create desired line types?

It will be a big help..

Help will tell you all about it. For example, this [from 2016, but I don't think anything is any different from older versions]. Also look at various Related Topics for how to structure a .LIN file, how to Load linetypes, etc. It's all there.
