I have just upgraded to Windows 10 and now everytime I open a .dwg I of course get the User Account Security window that informs me that a program is changing system settings but I also get an error window that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program". The progam does start and I can use it. Are there any updates or anything for Autocad 2004 that will allow it to run more smoothly with Win 10?

this is all Autodesk has announced for Windows 10
http://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Windows-10-support-for-Autodesk-products.html

other threads on this subject: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=labels&q=windows+10

don't know why you would upgrade to windows 10 if you knew you were running over a decade old software

Autodesk will never make Autocad 2004 compatible with Windows 10

@jcdmfg AutoCAD 2004 will not work with Windows 10, it's too outdated for the new operating system. You can run it on a simulated operating system through Windows 10, but I'm not sure if it's legal according to the standard Autodesk product Terms of Service.

Here is what works:

Install Windows 7. Either 32 or 64 bit version is OK. Keep in mind that AutoCAD 2004 is a 32 bit applicartion. Install AutoCAD 2004. Use the Microsoft upgrade process to move to Windows 10. When completed AutoCAD 2004 will run just the same as in Windows 7 with no extra messages or other annoying prompts. Why does the work? I simply don't know, it just works. If someone out there, smarter than me could figure out why it works then maybe this would answer the big question which is how to replecate this in Windows 10 without having to go back to Wimdows 7. In the mean time good luck and keep in mind that when this free upgrade program ends from Microsoft on 7/29/16 this option may no loger be available to you.
