topic trouble when object is hidden in AutoCAD Forum

I've noticed a couple of things I cannot do in 2016 that I could with release 2000. The first thing is that I cannot extrude an object by selecting two points on a different solid. I used to be able to specify the distance to extrude by selecting 2 endpoints. Now I have to actually measure the distance and type it in or move the profile to the endpoint of the other object and select the 2nd point.

The other issue I am having is that I cannot select the midpoint on the edge of a solid when i have the lines hidden. I can only pick the midpoin of the entire solid.

I am trying to draw a construction line across the face of a cube from the midpoint of one side to the midpoint on the other side.

Hi,

>> I cannot extrude an object by selecting two points on a different solid

When you were asked to enter a value or an option (Direction/Path/Taper) you can use

(getdist)

That asks you for 2 points and returns the distance as result to the command.

>> cannot select the midpoint on the edge of a solid when i have the

>> lines hidden. I can only pick the midpoin of the entire solid.

Why hiding lines when you need them to show the mid point? You will be unsure what mid-point you show.

BUT: I can use the midpoint objectsnap while I'm in visual style "hidden":

>> I am trying to draw a construction line across the face of a cube from the

>> midpoint of one side to the midpoint on the other side.

Then use objectsnap _ZCEN and you will get that:

So all is well, just to learn new features 😉
