DJ; Good catch, I forgot about looking in the Files Tab under Options! Ok yes, I have find the path to the regular font folder, thank you. I assume if I saved these extra fonts in that folder, Autocad most likely would find them. I have also read the other post about an uninstall could wipe them out. So yes, good idea to keep these special fonts also in a separate folder. Thank you!

SHX font and shape files location question.

When I open my drawing I get the "One or more SHX files are missing" dialog box. So I picked on "Specify a replacement for each SHX file" just to see where the computer was looking to find it this font. It was looking in C: windows/system32 . Even though there are no other .shx file types in that folder to begin with (which I thought was strange). So lucky I have a font folder was sent to me with all of my drawings. So I copied all of the .shx and .ttf files into the system32 folder. Now, good news, I don't receive that error any more when I open the drawing. I assuming it found the font that it was looking for.

My question is this. Why does Autocad look in the system32 folder when there is a c:/windows/font folder? Also, where does Autocad look to get all of the regular .shx files from? Wouldn't Autocad be looking where all the other .shx files are stored? I'm curious to understand this.

Thank you for any enlightenment.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\autocad [your version]\fonts

Certainly not system32 ... someone screwed up with that and also remember to verify that the path to the fonts is mapped in OPTIONS > Files tab

For sake of argument (and when uninstalling AutoCAD),
Store the not-out-of-the-box SHX files in a separate folder
and declare a support path to that folder.

When AutoCAD uninstalls, it removes files and folders that it installs
and if there are file(s) in one of these folders that was not part of the
install, the folder structure is left behind (along with the files it did
not install). Messy.

???
