Hi All,

I'm calculating square footages per BOMA 2010 Office Standard and am wondering if it is possible to link polylined areas to an Excel spreadsheet (using AutoCAD) without manually entering the numbers into Excel. Currently, I draw an area using the polyline tool and then click on the area to view the square footage. Then I manually enter the number into Excel. Is this the only/most efficient way to calculate footages?

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Hi Scott;

You should be able to do a data extraction and create an Excel file without having to go through manually creating an Excel file cell by cell.

From the Help file, searched for "Export to Excel file", second topic, "About Exporting Extracted Data":

Select Objects

Specifies the types of objects (blocks and non-blocks) and drawing information to be extracted.
Valid objects are checked by default. Objects that do not exist in the selected drawing are not checked. Click the column head to reverse the sort order. Columns can be resized. Property data from checked objects is displayed on the Select Properties page.

Note that it specifies ploylines.

Check that out and tell me what you think, and we can discuss details later.

I USE A FIELD TO READ THE SQ FT OF POLYLINE, IT IS IN A BLOCK THAT I EXTRACT TO A TABLE, BUT CAN BE SENT TO EXCEL AS WELL.

Hi Steve,

My apologies for the delay in my response. Notifications are being sent to my Junk Email folder. As of the solution, I'm sure it works, but I have not had a chance to check it. I will likely not be able to get to it until the next time I will use the spreadheet for BOMA; which will probably be a few months away.

Thank you,

Scott
