CHANGE ROTATION IN VIEWPORT

Good afternoon all.

I have a problem wherein I need to rotate the view of a drawing object within a viewport, without actually rotating the object in model space.

A former coworker had showed me once where I could reverse the view--- looking at the object from the A side to looking from the B side. Now, I want to rotate the orientation inside the viewport.

I hope this is clear enough. If not, please let me know.

You can use the good old DVIEW command with the TWist parameter:

DVIEW

<enter>

Twist

enter your rotation angle

Another method would be to use the UCS command with UCSFOLLOW enabled:

UCSFOLLOW

UCS

enter your rotation angle

Rotate the viewport: that's right, select the viewport outline, start ROTATE command, select your angle, and be done.

But you seem to want MIRROR instead... .

There are two options you could try that can help with rotating a view within a viewport.

Please ensure VPROTATEASSOC is set to 1 if ROTATE doesn't work as expected on you viewport.

Hi,

click onto corners or edges of the cube, this brings you to predefined views.

And completely free orbit can be done by

click and hold a corner of the viewcube while moving the mouse
click and hold <SHIFT><MiddleMouseButton> and move the mouse

I have always used dview and rotated by certain angles when modeling equipment, but this could help for standard views.

thank you, one and all for your responses.

Please pardon my delayed response. I got sick, and was out for a day.

I did find that the VPROTATEASSOC did what I'd wanted.

It was not however what I was initially thinking.

As stated in my initial post, this colleague who'd shown this to me had used something like -view, or -vport. I did just try this and it did not work the way I was expecting.

I don't remember specifically. But what it did was to show the reverse side of the object.

And no, it was not mirror.

I do like the wheel. I'd used it before, but that was sufficiently long ago that I'd forgotten-- thank you for the reminder.

I think that one of these two items will probably be what I'll use for the time being.

What would cause the small arrows on the view cube to not rotate the view? Someone gave me a drawing to edit for them, and they are not working. If I create a new drawing, or open any of my old drawings, the arrows work fine.

I tried the vprotateassoc command on both a 1 and 0 variable but that did nothing.
