Hi @Anonymous,

Ok so I built a VM with just AutoCAD in a WIN 7 environment and I wasn't able to reproduce your issue.

Below are a list of things I would suggest in troubleshooting this;

1. Uninstall/Reinstall Visual C++ (follow the steps in the hyperlink article)
2. Uninstall/Reinstall .NET files

3. Send me your NFO file

If the issue still persist let me know I can try and get further input from a specialist on the I&L team.

Unrelated to Autodesk products, recently my computer was unable to boot and reverted to an earlier restore point. That did not effect AutoCAD or Inventor as far as I can tell, but it broke Autodesk desktop app. I can unistall it, but how do get it to reinstall it? Now it give the error --"Error Unable to connect to server. Please try again later." I can assure you than my internet connection is fine. It was working perfectly before reverting to the earlier restore point.

Thanks in advance.

That image you show is the Autodesk Application Manager, not AutoCAD. If its running it requires connection to the Autodesk servers. If you're having network or internet problems then you can't connect. If Autodesk's servers are down (for maintenance) then you won't be able to connect.

I'd try again later. If it never connects then uninstall the Application Manager and reinstall it.

Hope this helps,

Yes. AutoCAD works fine. Autodesk desktop app (AKA Autodesk Application Manager), is broken. I need to reinstall it. Can you point me to a location where I can fine it so I can perform the reinstall? Unless AutoDesks servers have been down for a week, it is not that. See the error on start up in the image.

I am posting here becasue I am not finding a forum dedicated to Autodesk desktop app (AKA Autodesk Application Manager). And because I use AutoCAD almost exclusively.

So I'm assuming you've restared your system (numerous times).

Before we go through the uninstall and reinstall try these:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-Unable-to-run-Application-Manager.html

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Meta-licensing.html
In this link there is a link to the POODLE hotfix. It's the first option under "solution." Try that. If that doesn't help then proceed to the "check the Internet Explorer connection settings" section.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/application-manager-does-not-work/td-p/5498681

If none of the above don't work then try to uninstall and reinstall. To uninstall. . .

Navigate to and click on the Windows Start button

Click on "Control Panel"

Clck on "Uninstall a program"

In the list of programs find "Autodesk Application Manager" (NOT Autodesk App Manager)

Right-cllck on "Autodesk Application Manager" and select "Uninstall/Change" and follow the prompts

Hope this helps,

Do you really need the Autodesk Application Manager? I uninstalled it back in April of 2015 and not a single of the various AutoCAD 2016 versions on my machines have suffered at all. It's nanny-ware, no one really needs it and you spend so much time trying to fix it like this... .

Lose it now. You'll thank me later.

Naw, you don't really need it. Like you said, it's just a nanny-software. I rarely use it. I prefer to go straight to the Autodesk site and check for updates myself, but I do use it from time to time just to see if I've missed anything. Uninstalling it will not have any negative effect on your AutoCAD software.

I tried the info in the 3 links jporter provided. I did add the SSL 3.0 setting, but that did nothing. I messesd around with the log settings, but that thread is from a year ago and it appears fro an old version of manager. One of those links was for pre 2016 AutoCAD.

I can uninstall, but I do honestly find it useful. I know I can do apply updates manually, but nanny-ware or not, if it tracks avialble updates for me, it is useful. One less think I need to dink around with when I should be doing somethimng else...

Thank you for pointing out what I need to unstall. What I don't know is where to find Autodesk Application Manager so I can reinstall it. Is there a link? If I need to reinstall AutoCAD 2016, manager is toast.

That fixed it. The program to uninstall is "AutoDesk Desktop App". I inadvertantly uninstalled "AutoDesk App Manager" in the process. Is atht something I will need to run AutCAD 2016 and Inventor 2016? Can I reinstall that component? Sorry, I am making as many problems as I have fixed...

The reinstall and update worked smoothly. Thanks to Emmsleys and jporter

Thanks to jporter for the warning. I think I have noticed the issue with the nanny-ware getting out of sync with the installed updates. It would be a simple fix to have it refigure that.

Hi @labumm,

I terms are getting mixed up "Application Manager" and "Application desktop app" which might be adding to the confusion. Autodesk Application Manager is what you wanted to uninstall. This is "a desktop tool that helps you stay current with the latest updates for all Autodesk applications". Is this what you are referring to?

AutoCAD 2016 and Inventor 2016 will be able to run without this. You can reinstall the component whenever you want to or you can look for any service packs and or hotfixes here.

Have you tried unselecting the Show desktop alert windows?

In ver 6 it is renamed to Autodesk desktop app.

In Windows control panel "Programs and Features", it is called "Autodesk Desktop App". There was another item "Autodesk App Manager" that I also uninstalled becaused by accident. As you can see I have nothing called "Autodesk Application Manager".

See the screen shots.

@labumm

Sorry about that! I am still running on Windows 7 and I was under the impression you were as well. You are right.

Uninstalling the app and the application manager shouldn't interfere with your AutoCAD or Inventor applications.

If it does post back in the forums the users in this community and myself will be happy to help.

I am running Win 7 64. When you install the version posted above, it then updates itself with the new version.

@Anonymous, can we assume that you've done the uninstall/reinstall process that was laid out by @Emmsleys on the first page of the discussion? Just trying to get a bearing on where to begin the troubleshooting here.

Hi @Anonymous,

Let me look into this and I will circle back to this topic.

Do you mind sharing with me your NFO file? If so let me know I'll send you a BOX invite to upload the document.

Also did you do a uninstall / reinstall as suggested in the previous post?
