INSERT command has blocks that I cannot get rid of

Using the insert command to insert a block, the list of blocks contains many blocks that I want to delete. How can these unwanted blocks be deleted. Purge command is not doing it.

Hi @BVPE,

usually "purge" cleans all unused blocks. That means, your blocks are used somewhere on the drawing. Even if the have no content. Is it possible for you to upload the drawing and tell me which blocks you want to purge. I will take look on this.

Attached is a drawing. I want to get rid of the numerous blocks that are architectural blocks that include appliances and cabinets or casework. Once I know how to eliminate these unwanted blocks I can clean them up as I need.

Go to insert, block, you will see many blocks that I want to get rid of.

Which one is the actual block or entities that you want? Your file opens with nothing visible.

otherwise DXFOUT then DXFIN to a new file gets rid of almost everything.

Hi @BVPE,

as @pendean said... this drawing is empty with only those blocks. I hope I understood you correctly that you want to get rid of all of them.

Another easy way to clean up drawings would be "wblock". At the end there are two blocks left, which I believe belong to dimension styles.

Would this be ok for you, or are there only specific blocks you want to get rid of?

From what i understand these are left in there from the verticles. The drawing actualy isnt empty, there is one block in there, but deleting it doesnt help. if you select all Ctrl+A and brin up properties window you can see its a block.

I was able to get rid of most of it doing an EXPORTTOACAD2013

I tried to WBLOCK but it had limited success as well

What do you mean by wblock? How does this command delete those blocks that are displayed in the dialogue box for Insert, Block name dialogue box?

When you click on the word "wblock" in my thread you will see a screencast how this command works. It will purge all unnecessary items in the drawing.

The solution that you provided got rid of the unwanted blocks. However, it deleted layers that I did not want deleted. How can I not delete layers and still get rid of the unwanted blocks?

Well, once you have the "clean" drawing, you could use the design center to drag and drop all needed objects/styles into your drawing from the original one.

The other question is, why do you insist to use this drawing? Take a new template and drag and drop only what you need. Wouldn't that work as well?
