Another day, another problem. This morning I tried to paste the text CHOKER, to the outside of the cylinder that is the primaary structure of the Choker device. The letters are a solid created as previously explained above.

I brought the text in using the Insert command, exploded it and then maneuvered it on to the surface of the cylinder. Then pushed it into the surface a few thosands and tried to Union the two items.

That did not work right off so I exploded the text one more time and got this frightening message "Cannot explode ellipse" Who would have thought that such a thing would pop up. The letter O in the text is an ellipse. BUMMER!!

So now I have to go all the way back to the creation of the solid letters and try to find a font that does not use ellipses for the letter O just because Autodesk programmers can't explode a solid elllipse. The font used, CORBEL, closely matches the original part and my customer expects the replacement part to look like the damaged part. Silly man! See the attached cartoon for more information.

you are going to have to draw an elipse (the old way). and replace it

Type PELIPSE and set that to 1

draw your elipse ELIPSE

remove the regular elipse by deleting it.

select you new elispe and then EXPLODE

Autocad will reduce solids to 2D surfaces when exploded, the fact that it reduced the center of the letter 'O' to an ellispe may be impressive from a programming point of view... and very helpful in creating additional, different, extrusions along seperate paths. With reduced polygons as a bonus.

I find the best way to extrude text in autocad to be via MS Word WordArt outlined text. Copy in Word, paste 'As Autocad Entities...' in AutoCad.

Good conversion of text, without it creating ellipses. Work in a big scale, then scale down in AutoCad.

For anything more complex, e.g shapes or logos from Bitmap.... I use these steps;

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-2013-2014-2015-2016/cad-blocks/m-p/3799659#M13263

Well I am not sure what caused that responce but I can say that I have been able to finish the model and have sent out several RFQ's to have a 3D printed version made in either a fiber reinforced polymer or Direct Laser Sintering in eithe aluminum or stn. steel.

The attached files show some views of the part with the text imbedded in the surfaces of the part plus a view of the fractured part that my customer gave me in a bag which I then super glued together.

Thanks for the comments Dara Work but a much less complex solution is to break the elipse into two parts. With the gap at 0.002 in. the "letter", when 3D printed, will disapear.
