You still have to select and purge the linetypes. I was able to remove 20MB from an 'infected' drawing.

I have AUTOCAD2016 and I cannot remove the DGN files. In my purge command box I have the "automatically purge orphaned data" box checked yet after the purge is completed the linetypes are still there and my file remains 46MB. Additionally since my box is already checked when I initiate the purge command in the lower irght hand corner of my screen it says "purging orphaned DGN linestyle data" with a progress bar but again the files remain. Can someone help me with this. I have 2013 in another computer and the DGN Purge worked wonders, but this "incorporated" purge does nothing.

@Anonymous

With the help of @pendean it seems you already got this issue resolved from working in another thread.

I went ahead and took the file you uploaded in this thread, and ran through the steps I suggested on my machine.

I was able to clean up the file reduced the size 46MB to .3MB. Obviously I am missing some information like your xrefs but I didn't need to download or use another application to get rid of the orphaned data you mentioned. I ran the steps about 3 times to be safe in AutoCAD 2015/2016. You can check the file, it should show that the data you wanted purged is no longer there.

Clean steps;

Run RECOVERALL, at the command line and select drawing, save drawing and close.

Run RECOVER, at the command line and select drawing.

(-)PURGE > Regapps > Enter>No

(-)PURGE>ALL> Enter>No

(-)PURGE> O>Enter

AUDIT> Yes

PURGE > Select Purge nested items> Select Automatically purge orphaned data > Purge All (make sure to select purge

(-)AUDIT>Y

If anything this is a good thread for others who work with older drawings and have an issue with corrupted files. This post was also worked on this thread which provided more of an explanation/information and different suggestions. Variety is good.

Sometimes purges and recover all still will not get rid of the garbage, this may work for you:

Open a temp dwg

Paste original dwg objects into temp file, clippboard copy from base point 0,0

del objects from original file

Purge both orig dwg and temp dwg

paste objects back into orig dwg, ref 0,0

you may find it helpful to perform this for model space and paper space separately for best results on stubborn files.

Hope this helps

-Tim C.
