Quick question - I don't think I have SP2 loaded with AutoCAD 2015. Do you think that could be the issue? (I tried separating those two files out to a different folder, but A1-1 still locks up the program.)

Hi,

I have a large group of drawing files that I am trying to open, but they freeze up the AutoCAD 2015 program when I do. They were sent to me by another firm, originally created by an older version of AutoCAD, but now that firm uses Microstation. The files have the dwg extension, and there are x-ref drawings included. I've also had them send me a couple of shape files thinking that might be the problem, but it didn't help. Everything is in one folder, and there are close to 200 files. I've tried a number of things, but get nowhere, and then I have to go into Task Manager to end the task. Can anyone offer a solution/suggestion?

Thanks,

LP

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

>> I have a large group of drawing files that I am trying to open, but they freeze up the AutoCAD 2015

Every single file makes AutoCAD stopping? When you look to task manager, how big is the CPU load for AutoCAD (and which 2 other processes are the ones with most power besides of the ACAD.EXE process)?

Upload one of the drawings so we can see if it's file dependent.

Hi Alfred,

Yes, almost every drawing (or at least the ones I need), no matter the file size. The one I just tried was about 15% CPU with most everything else closed out. I attached that file along with the one it seems to want to reference (gcx-tbk.dwg).

LP

Hi,

I can open both files (using AutoCAD 2016 SP1 as well as AutoCAD 2015 SP2). So it does not depend on that 2 files, but if these files are based on a lot of XRef's it might be depending on the XRef's AutoCAD tries to load with one drawing.

What you can try first is to copy these two files from network to your local system, disconnect from network and so also from Internet, if other files are local move them to any different folder so AutoCAD can't find the other files when accessing the 2 files you showed here ... and now start AutoCAD and try to load them. ... Same issue?

If that works then my guess that this has to do with any of the referenced files seems to be correct. You might try to close AutoCAD, reconnect to network. move all files to the previous place. Then start AutoCAD, create a new drawing and start command _RECOVERALL ... select "A1-1.DWG" and let AutoCAD search for database errors.

HTH, - alfred -
