Hey guys,

I just wanted to install AutoCAD 2015 on my notebook. But during the installation two messages saying that a key in the registry could not be opened because I don't have the sufficient access to this.

I checked the previous posts in here and on the Autodesk troubleshooting page, I've done the giving-permission-stuff in the registry - but still the error does appear.

I'm working on Windows 8.1 - I did have AutoCAD installed on this notebook before, but I did uninstall it because I want it to be installed on my second built-in hard drive.

Do you guys have any solutions?

Oliver

Hello Oliver, and welcome to the Forums!

When you try the install, are you logged in as a Administrator? If not, please try that.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the installer .EXE file and choose "Run as Administrator".

If you are still experiencing difficulties, please try the suggestions below:

Clean uninstall of AutoCAD or verticals

Go to this site and follow the recommendations.

Reboot your computer.

Log in as an Administrator.

Download a fresh version of AutoCAD from our website.

Turn off your anti-virus.

Disable any Firewall software.

Try the install again.

If that does not work, try creating a new Windows user account (preferably an Admin account), log into it and try the install from there.

Post back with any error messages if the install still does not work.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves your issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

Hi Steve!

Thanks for your advice, I have doon all the steps you said but unfortunately i still get the error notification while installing.

It says "The key UNKNOWN\Compontents\C553BD45CEDDE414B8B84A640261C044\85BDC73A8EAA0000C8310E7FABBCD0F5 could not be opened. Please make sure you have sufficient acces to this key."

As I've been searching my registry for the key (side question: why does it even say "unknown" in the notification?) I could neither set a new owner for the key, nor have i been able to set new access informations. Here's a sreenshot from the error (obviously I'm speaking German - so sorry for any mistranslations! )

Any ideas on that?

Thanks,
Oliver

So you did a complete uninstall using the instructions I gave you, making sure to reboot afterward?

Did you try creating a new Windows Administrator user account and try the install from there?

Yes, I have several ideas on that, none of them good.

If neither of the above two things got it working (and they usually do for this kind of error), then:

1. There may be damage to your Windows installation, specifically major corruption in your registry. This can happen over time, from failed/failing hardware, or from other external elements, like:

2. Your computer might have a virus.

3. Your computer might have been hacked.

A couple of suggestions:

1. You might want to try getting a program that does registry repair to see if it can remove the corrupt elements from the registry and get you working again.

2. Update your virus definitions, then run a full virus scan from your anti-virus software. Make sure all programs are closed, and don't use the system during the scan.

3.Go to a website that does free anti-virus scanning to check your system for possible viruses that your anti-virus solution has not protected you from. Make sure to choose a site that is run by a reputable company. Read the article:

How to choose an antivirus app for Windows and Mac

It mentions several reputable companies.

Please post back with any new information.

Yes I did all those steps you told me to do.

Also created a new Admin account - without any success.

Now even if I try to uninstall AutoCad I get this error message.

I just decided to set up my Windows completely new next week - if this does not help anything...well then I probably jsut throw my notebook out of the window.

I'll let you know about the results by next week.

Oliver
