Dear Steve,

I hope you're still on these forums. I've recently upgraded to 2019. I've tried your solution (full reset of the programme to defaults), then setting the preferences again, and it didn't take. I'm still having to double or triple- right-click in order to progress through a command where I've set my user preferences to pure "right click enter" just like in older versions. It's driving me nuts and causing functions to fail because it also applies inconsistently. Sometimes one right-click will work, sometimes it seems to take three, so you try to set a habit of double-clicking, and then you've inadvertently skipped the second stage of the command because it went on one this time. I think I've managed to hide, but not truly deactivate the execrable search box. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am using AutoCAD 2016 for PC and have found that I can no longer set the right-click button to "enter" and "repeat last command." For 20 years I've used macros combined with the right-click for speed and I must be able to set it to the classic commands. I don't and will probably never use shortcut menus on the screen as they take way too much time. Now I have to read the command prompt and right-click 2-3 times for the command to take - not my idea of speed. Is there a fix for this issue?

Frustrated!

Hi,

>> For 20 years I've used macros combined with the right-click for speed

You miss then all the context options (right click while some specific objects are selected), there was an improvement to see and to use these options during the past 20 years 😉

However, you can start command _OPTIONS, tab "User Preferences" and change the right-click customization either to use <ENTER> for the right mouse or to use the time sensitive right-click (I would prefer that).

Thanks for your reply, Alfred.

I have tried using the shortcut menus - that's how I know they take so much more time. With macros you simply enter a 2-3 letter command with the left hand, right click and you're done, and never have to move the cursor from the spot you're working in.

The right-click customization in the options menu don't work. If the choices made are NOT shortcut menu choices it reverts back to right-click = shortcut menu, strange as that may seem. If you check the time sensitive click this greys out 2 of the 3 right-click options and it still won't work.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Hi,

>> With macros you simply enter a 2-3 letter command with the left hand, right click and you're done,

For me that means just one more click with the left hand (or right hand, as I use my mouse left and right) onto the space button, same as enter (as long as it's not a text-like input).

>> The right-click customization in the options menu don't work. If the choices made are NOT shortcut menu choices

>> If you check the time sensitive click this greys out 2 of the 3 right-click options

Well, you can either set the time-sensitive active ... then short click means always <ENTER> and none short click always <menu>, so that makes sense that options are greyed out.

>> Any other suggestions?

You always have the option to disable it globally:

Hello Laurel and welcome to the Forums!

I am trying to understand the problem you are having but I am unclear on a couple of things:

1. After you go into Options>User Preferences>Right-click Customization> under Default Mode and choose the radio button for Repeat Last Command, then click Apply & Close, a single right click doesn't give you the last command?

2. Right-clicking two or three times does give you the last command?

These options have been the same since the AutoCAD 2014 release, so if it is not working correctly, then there is a problem in your system that needs to be corrected.

Did this work correctly at one time, or has it always malfunctioned since you installed AutoCAD 2016?

What OS are you using?

Don't worry, we will get this working right!

Hi Steve.

Yes, both of your statements are correct.

"right click customization" is greyed out unless I check "short-cut menus in
drawing area".

If I change right-click customization for right-click to mean "enter" and
"repeat last command" it unchooses "shortcut menus" but right-click brings
up the shortcut menu in the drawing area anyway.

So then if I right-click, the short-cut menu pops up, right-click again and
the short-cut menu disappears, right-click again for the command to take
effect, therefore 3 clicks.

OS is Windows 10.

Seems odd that no one else seems to have this problem?

Thank you,

Laurel

Laurel;

<"right click customization" is greyed out unless I check "short-cut menus in drawing area".>

This is the way it is supposed to work.

<If I change right-click customization for right-click to mean "enter" and "repeat last command" it unchooses "shortcut menus" but right-click brings up the shortcut menu in the drawing area anyway.>

This is NOT the way it is supposed to work!

As long as you select "Apply & Close" in the Right-click Customization window before exiting it should work correctly.

The fact that it does not work right probably means that there is some damage to the AutoCAD installation.

Can you please try resetting AutoCAD to defaults to see if that returns the correct functionality to the program?

How to reset AutoCAD to defaults

If you have any customizations, you will want to backup your settings first, then restore them after resetting AutoCAD to defaults.

BACKUP:

START>All Programs>Autodesk>AutoCAD 2016>Migrate custom settings>Export AutoCAD 2016 settings. 2. Click the EXPORT button. 3. In the Export custom settings dialog box, select a location (like your desktop) to save the ZIP file created by the program.

This is the file that you would save to your desktop so you can access it later, or copy to a removable drive to move settings from one computer with AutoCAD 2016 to a different computer with AutoCAD 2016.

RESTORE: START>All Programs>Autodesk>AutoCAD 2016>Migrate custom settings>Import AutoCAD 2016 settings.

Point the program to the file you created previously.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you get it working? I'm on 2019 and it's doing the same stunt, and still resistant to being fixed. I almost wonder if it hides but doesn't deactivate the shortcuts menu? I'm tempted to find a copy of CAD 2007 or something, this is insufferable.

Do you have another mouse you could try, in order to rule out the possibility that the button is bad? Or does the rmb work in other programs correctly?

Thank you. I've tested my rmb using the Windows built-in double-click speed checker and it appears to be error-free. I've also not encountered any trouble with it in any other capacity, including video games. Interestingly, when I right-click the one change I'll see is that the command I've typed will pop to all caps, in a manner which suggests that it's optimising itself for searching. The commands and short commands I type are correct--does it search for them anyway, even when they're right?

Nevertheless, it might be worth updating to the latest version of Intellepoint or Setpoint, just in case a windows update did something.

AutoCAD searches the command list as you type so that you don't have to type the whole thing. As soon as you see what you want highlighted, hit Enter. It's called Auto-Complete.

CAD does not show the command list as I type. I've asked it not to. It may still be searching through it in the background, but I find it distracting so I turned it off. The behaviour of right-click is unusual with it visible, though. Post-right click the text capitalises and mouse movements (without clicking of any kind) over the command list cause the list to scroll freely.

My drivers appear to be up-to-date but for the sake of science I'll borrow someone else's in the morning and try it. Thank you for your help.

I believe the solution to this is to disable or increase the time for the "search system variables" option for the command line. Use command INPUTSEARCHOPTIONS to bring up the menu and then disable functions as you see fit. In my case I just changed the "Suggestion list delay time" to be 3000 milliseconds (3 sec), that way it gives me ample time to right-click enter to initiate the command before the silly prompt comes up. But if you do want to see a list of commands you just wait the 3 seconds for it to come up.

Hi. The problem you guys were discussing came up on my systems too- 2 computers. The mice bring up the shortcut menus, and then cut off commands randomly unless I slow down the input. I am using Logitech G700 gaming mice. This stuff came up a few months ago out of the blue. All the things you suggested don't work, the right click customization in the user preferences, like the person said, doesn't actually work- the shortcut settings keep going back to original. I don't want to see a shortcut menu ever when I click anything on the mouse, and I want it to react to everything I'm doing without lagging. Any new suggestions?
