Changing layers

I have drawn several objects on the wrong layer and moved them to the correct layers. When I now select the objects they are shown as in the correct layer. However, in paper space I need to hide some layers based on the page I'm working on. I have discovered that despite AutoCAD telling me that the objects have the correct layer, they do not disappear correctly when I freeze the layer; or objects I need to show disappear when I freeze other layers in the window.

For example, I wish to show only my ground mounted PV panels and hide the house. AutoCAD says that the panels are on layer 8 and the house is on layer 4. When I freeze layer 4 in the viewport (to hide the house), the panels disappear as well. In model space, the command to turn off layer 8 does not hide the panels, but the command to turn off layer 4 (the house) does. Again, when I select the panels, it says they are already on layer 8. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Are these panels made up of blocks?

It sounds to me as though the panels are Blocks inserted on Layer 8, but whose content is drawn on Layer 4. [One way to check: with Layer 4 still turned on, freeze Layer 8, and they should disappear.] REFEDIT or BEDIT the Block definition so that the content of it is drawn on Layer 0 [or Layer 8, just not Layer 4].

Follow Kent's advice and open the blocks in block editor and change the layer there.

HI @Anonymous

I have attached a simple screencast video of how to redefine the block as described by others in this post. It shows that with the elements of the block on layer 6, and the block defined on layer 0, the block is not behaving the way you like.

Using the BE blockeditor command and editing the block so that its elements are loacted on layer 0, the display now functions the way you intend.

I hope this helps.
