mjc_design

AutoCAD can't import SAT files higher than version 7.0 ... So.. .Can you get them to export it as a .SAT file but as version 7.0 or earlier then you should be able to bring it into AutoCAD

That way you miss out on the "Inventor" step.

Although I'm not 100% sure if you actually need it as an Inventor file or and AutoCAD file?

Mark

Hi

We have received a 3d dwg file that we are attempting to put into Autodesk Inventor. The file was originally created in TEKLA and was saved as a dwg.

I have tried exprting as other file formats > .sat and get an error message - "No solids, regions or ShapeManager bodies selected." This was in AutoCAD mechanical 2015.

Any ideas what we can do? We can't create a STEP file because our version of Inventor (2015) won't import these.

Thanks

Matt

Your DWG file contains nothing that AutoCAD can export to SAT format. Not sure what other kind of magic you are looking for with AutoCAD Mech my friend.

Contact your TEKLA file source and discuss with them these topics:
http://helpcenter.teklabimsight.com/helpcenter/topic.jsp?id=bd7e7e94-d12c-4f68-9c29-fa4171762979
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/export-and-import-file-between-inventor-and-tekla-bim-software/m-p/5662153#M549084

I know pretty much nothing about TEKLA, other than it is 3d.

We had stp files created for us, that inventor 2015 will not import and when opened contained nothing bar a translation report.

I asked them to create a dwg for us, to give that a try. Importing this into inventor created a multi surface body model with serious issues that couldnt be turned into a solid without a ridiculous amount of work.

I tried IGESOUT and exporting as SAT and obviously these failed. This was the main reason for asking for the dwg, as i thought i may be able to use these commands. To my leyman eyes, it looked like a normal 3d model when opened in AutoCAD

As i said, i know nothing about TEKLA or why it wouldnt have anything i could create an .sat with. Tbh i'm not 100% what an .sat is other than it can be imported into inventor as an accurate solid model.

The question is about export, not import.

And the exact reason was given by AutoCAD to the OP.

No solid bodies in the file.

Friend, those DWG files are completely useless for the results you wish/desire.
You need a TEKLA to Inventor solution as noted in the two links I shared with you.

Good luck, I see you posted in Inventor to continue the topic.
