Hello

so we have inserted lots of images in our file and clipped the images to the desirable shapes. The images work fine in the 2d wireframe mode but in the realistic or shaded mode I see an inverted image clip. This problem continues to paper space as well. For some reason the exact same file functions well on a different computer. I am attaching some screen shots of the problem that I am encountering.

Thank you

Hello d.kumar,

Welcome to the Forums!

It is a bit difficult to understand completely what you have here but let me take a stab at it.

It appears that you are putting some type of images (jpg, png?) into modelspace. In one view they look OK and in the other model view they don't. The paperspace view s screwed up reflecting the anomaly you have in the second model view.

So, my thoughts are whether or not this issue happens with only one picture file type or with all types? Also, have you tried adjusting the Display / Draw order of the entities? Can you send the pictures to the back and other elements brought to the front? Where are you using realistic and shaded modes? Are the picture backgrounds transparent (such as PNG)?

Lots of questions! Can you send me some of the files as attachments to the thread so I can explore what you are doing? I look forward to helping you resolve this problem.

Hello John

Thank you so much for getting back to me. So I am using Autocad 2015. The images which we are using are jepgs. I am attaching the jepg and dwg.

Good morning d.kumar,

Am I correct in understanding that this problem only happens on one workstation and not others? If so, what is different about the workstation? Does it have the same hardware, OS, AutoCAD version, etc? If all these things are the same, does the file when saved on this workstation exhibit the same problem when opened on other workstations?

Please try logging onto your workstation as a different user and let me know if the same problems occur.

Please also attach the drawing file to this thread - I didn't see the attachment you mentioned previously (possibly due to file size). If the file is very large, please let me know so that I can arrange to have you upload it to me in a different location.

Kumar,

If these images are supposed to represent the faces and surfaces of 3d objects, then you will need to add new materials to the drawing. In each material, select the color and choose the image. Set the size of the image in terms of units in your drawing. Then apply the materials to your 3d objects and map them correctly (planar, cylindrical, box, etc.). Then the realistic mode and renderings will work correctly.

I see that I finally have your sample files. I am not sure what I am looking though. I opened the dwg file and it has one image in modelspace. It has one layout with nothing on it.

Please tell me your work process. Also, have you considered the other solutions in the thread regarding how you are applying your images? Using them as materials might be the best solution.

Hello

So our pipe line is to create every drawing as a 3D drawing first and then using different viewport to see the front view, side view so on. We would sometimes insert images to show human scale or other objects which we might not have modeled. When we go to print our drawings we keep the drawings in the realistic mode (inside the viewport in paperspace), so all the colors and surfaces are legible. Here is where the problem arises, as the image clips which work fine in the 2d wireframe mode does not in the realistic mode. The images are not used as materials or finishes, neither are these images faces or surfaces of 3d objects. They are just images placed in front of the 3d model, so when we print out a front elevation or side elevation and we have figures to relate to the drawings.

The answers to all your previous questions:

1). The images which we are using in these files are jepgs. The images are not PNGs so no transparent backgrounds. (though I see the same problem with png files as well)

2). I see this anomaly only with images associated with image clips

3). This issue is happening only in my workstation. All my colleagues have similar workstations as mine. We use windows 10 and all of us use Autocad ver. 2015

4). The file when saved on my workstation does not exhibit the same problem when its opened on other workstations.

It almost seems like a graphic card issue. if you can help me the the settings etc.

Thank you

D

Hi @Anonymous,

This is sort of an unusual workflow. I would suggest that you apply the images to a surface to have this work properly. Regardless, it seems to meet your needs so have at it 🙂

If other workstations do not exhibit this problem, then the question is what is different about your workstation from the others?

Are you using AutoCAD 2015 with all Service Packs applied?

Do you have the same computer/graphics configuration?

Do you have the Graphics Performance settings set up to match your teammates?
