Hey I am looking for a laptop for all the geodesy programs, also rendering in 2D/3D - Using Autodesk etc. How about this laptop - ASUS ROG GL752VW Procesor Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.60 GHz to 3.50 GHz, 6 MB cache) 8 GB RAM DDR4 Disk 1000 GB Sata 7200 17,3'' FullHD Graphic Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, 4GB If not then it would be aweasome if you help me out finding one, I would like to add that the laptop shouldn't weight too much. Couldn't select a proper board so I hope this one is fine. Best Regards,

Hello karciix, and welcome to the Forums!

Although I cannot comment on specific brands, (except maybe to say that my last two personal laptops have been ASUS), I can give you some resources to check and some general guidelines to follow.

The SATA drive will be fast, plus it is huge, so plenty of room for storage. SSD drives are typically faster, but more expensive and usually smaller. This is a tradeoff unless you can add a second drive for storage and keep the SSD for boot and program installs only, which will increase overall system speed.

RAM-make sure that you are looking at not only how much RAM a system has, but how much you can upgrade it to if you need more.

System requirements for AutoCAD

Please note that the minimum for RAM is 4GB (8GB recommended) for both AutoCAD 2016 & 2017, but that is a MINIMUM for running the program. If you are doing any 3D, large drawings, using large point clouds, or complex projects, you probably want to consider 16GB as the minimum.

The link below is to our Certified Hardware site, where you can go and plug in the OS, CAD version, and check compatibility for various video and system hardware:

Certified Hardware

It is not necessary to have a certified video card and driver, and many users have systems that work fine without them, but I still urge people to consider choosing from the list.

You do not typically need to choose a $1000 video card just to get decent performance, so try to keep a balance between budget and performance.

You can check the Autodesk Certified Hardware site before you decide on a video card, then, go to a benchmarking site, like one of these, so you can evaluate the card's speed versus the price:

Videocard Benchmarks

THE GAMER'S BENCHMARK

I hope that helps.
