Hi,

We have recently installed AutoCAD 2017 on 5 of our computers in our organisation however, two of them display the errors below, seen in the screenshots.

The program will then show an empty box attempting to "Activate AutoCAD" which hangs. If you close this window via the taskbar AutoCAD will continue to open and appears to work fine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jake

Sort of the same thing here. When you wait long enough the activation window appears. After clicking the Activate button, this Script error message shows.

What boggles my mind is that apparently you need to activate each single package of the Building Design Suite. One would expect that once you activate a product with a BDS activation code, the other products are activated automaticly...

Hello Jake, and welcome to the Forums!

"Closing error messages allows users to use AutoCAD 2017.

If you disconnect from the Internet, then start the program, and then reconnect to the Internet, error messages do not show up."

Can you please check to see if the above will stop the error messages, even if it is only temporarily?

I have also found references to similar errors that were browser related:

"This ended up being that IE's document mode was being defaulted to IE7 Standards. This was due to the compatibility mode being automatically set to be used for all intranet sites (Tools > Compatibility View Setting > Display Intranet Sites in Compatibility View)."

Please check this setting and change it to see if the errors continue.

"Older IE versions (IE7 and IE 8) show following error."

Please check your version of IE and let me know what version you are using.

Also, I have a couple of other questions:

1. What OS are you using?

2. What version of Java do you have installed on your system?

3. Since only two of the five systems with AutoCAD 2017 are having issues, can you think of any differences between the two systems and the 3 that are not experiencing the issue? Maybe things like whether or not the users have Admin privileges or not, if the software was installed differently on the 2, or perhaps they are on a different network or subnet should be considered.

I know that seems like a lot, but sometimes the answer lies in a small detail.

I look forward to your reply.

Hi Steve-

I also have the script error problem. I was glad to see your posted solution.

I disconnected the network cable from a computer with the script errors. I ran AutoCAD.

The activation screen showed up. I plugged the cable back in the computer and after a minute I was able the activate the software.

No script errors!

Thank you for posting!

Hi @Anonymous

We would like others to post their results to confirm this possible solution. Confirmation may give us more clues as to why the script errors are coming up in the first place. Michael, please correct me if I'm wrong. Your procedure was to:

Disconnect the network cable from a computer with the script errors.

Start AutoCAD - the script errors do not appear - an activation screen appears.

While the activation screen is present plug the network cable back in (reconnect to netowrk)

Activate AutoCAD - AutoCAD then opens with no errors.

Restarting AutoCAD no longer generates scripts errors.

Kind Regards,

Hello scott.tyner;

Yes, it is actually fairly likely that the firewall is responsible. The firewall is built to keep malicious software from contacting the outside world, and vice versa, so it probably sees an Activation request from a newly installed piece of software as just what it was designed to stop.

Please try this: shut off/disable the firewall software/hardware, and make sure to also disable the anti-virus software, then try it again and post back to let me know how it worked.

Hi Steve,

We are still experiencing trouble when we start AutoCAD. We have tried a number of different solutions without success. When we start the program without a network connection it starts with no errors and appears to be already activated and working correctly. Reconnect to the network and the script errors show again.

Do you have a list of AutoCAD website addresses we would need to allow past the firewall? I am unable to disable the firewall completely.

Thanks, Jake

Yes, there are several resources for this, depending on how you connect.

Known Firewall Check

Proxy server settings changes required to unblock Autodesk A360 services

Let me know if one of those is what you need.

Hi ALL,

Good news. I haved solved the issue.

In my case the issue was never associated with the Firewall. The issue was actually being caused by the language parameters of the shortcut which is automatically placed on the desktop upon install. (See picture)

****************************************************************************************************
FIX: All that needed to be done was to start the application using the EXE. (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD LT 2017\acadlt.exe)

****************************************************************************************************

Once this was done the program could finish the activation process without any script error and started as normal. As a result, the orginal shortcuts with the language parameter now works as well.

Thanks, Jake

Very nice!

I have seen the issue that having the language of the Operating System set to something other than English can cause the AutoCAD 2017 program to crash on first use...I wonder if the two problems might be related.

Are you using a language other than English on your systems, or have your system language set to something like English (Australia)?

Hi Steve,

On our computers we have the language set to English (Australia). I never thought to change this setting.

Thanks, Jake

Jake;

On previous versions it would not have been an issue.

I suspect that the problem may be part of the new subscription model and how it checks the licensing, but I do not know for sure.

Curiosity compels me to ask...what is the difference between English (United States) and English (Australia)?

Also, just wanted to update everyone, there has not been a resolution to the defect that was submitted.

worked for me too! (unplug newort cable).

Thank you so mutch BJ.C for posting

The only bad coment I can make, is that it's verry disapointing that a software of that price $$$$$ can be so time consuming to install. took me hours to finaly find this post, come on Autodesk, this is not serious to leave such bugs in official releases! Not serious, and not even honnest. End users who pay you deserves better QOS.

Just my 2 cents...

Erik
