James,

If you fix your scale issues and set your dimensions to a new annotative style, most of the issues should be fixed. You are dimensioning with imperial units but the drawing units are millimeters. The walls should be 100 mm thick in both drawings (or 101.6mm if you want to soft convert).

To scale the drawings, use a 3d view, turn on all your layers and then use scale. Use the relative option and pick two points across a typical wall intersection. Then enter 100. Then change your dimensions to a UK style and add the current scale 1:100 to the annotation objects.

When you look in plan in the first drawing, everything should be OK. In the second drawing, which contains no doors, just use the dooradd command.

If you do not have AutoCAD architecture, nothing will work well. This is an AutoCAD Architecture drawing. For more help, visit the AutoCAD Architecture newsgroup.

Hi, I have the sample version of AutoCAD 2017 and am trying to insert doors into a wall. When I insert a door on the first drawing I did (sample 1 attached), it worked fine. Now I am trying to insert doors on a second drawing (sample 2 attached) and the door format is different or something and I can't see the arc. It also looks completely different on the "work" tab. I am new to AutoCAD, so this is probably something simple, but I can't see it.

Hi and welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

you have totally different scale drawings. in the first drawing the wall thickness=3333.3 (i don't know why) and in the second one wall thickness=4.0 .

ans as you see there is a big different between two digit.

SO my advice for you is to draw both drawing in the same file then (if needed) you can seperate them.

Good Luck...

Ok, I get the scale thing, but when I try to insert a new door on either the first or the second drawing I still get the same results (no drawing arc on the drawing, and some big ugly contraption on the "work" tab where I can view the model). What is keeping me from inserting new doors and it looks the same as it did on the first drawing I did (Sample 1)? Even when I am modifing the orginal drawing, it doesn't do the same thing anymore.

Probably it has to do with AEC objects.

How are you inserting doors? Looks like you are using a third party software or add-on, or trying to reuse content from a version of AutoCAD you do not actually have, since plain AutoCAD has no "door/window/walls" ability at all. You need to go back to the source of your blocks for a fix, these are not stock AutoCAD 2017 items, you picked them up from somewhere else.

Which is it? You also need to fix the scaling problem as noted earlier, that's more important since you have to start with a good file in order for problems to disappear.

Hi @Anonymous,

As mentioned in the several excellent posts in this thread, it appears that you are working in a drawing from AutoCAD Architecture. Since even deleting a door symbol will maybe patch the wall, I suggest that you consider using the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command to get all your entities to be just ones found in AutoCAD. You will likely find that the doors have been reduced to polylines and arcs but you could build a simple door block and replace them now with out having strange wall issues reacting. After you run the -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command, you can scale all the elements of your drawing so that you can correct the issues with units.
