Polygonal Viewport / Raster Image Printing Problem

I am using ACAD 2017 and having trouble with very slow printing from paperspace with a raster image in my polygonal viewport. I have tried printing the same DWG without the raster and it is fine, but turned on it takes about 5 mins. The raster is only about 3.5mb, a fraction of the usual size i use.

From research this seems to be an ongoing / known issue with ACAD so i am wondering if the issue has been addressed with the latest release.

I have looked at a number of possible issues including, background transparency, layer walk, deleting the viewport & adding a new frame etc etc, but nothing makes any difference. It does print much faster if transparency is on but obviously this affects the quality of output for geometry that is overlaid onto the raster image, and not what i am after in this case. For clarity, i am printing an aerial image with vector based map overlaid.

Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated.

Nothing has changed: it's a slow process.
if you do this type of task frequently then invest in a standalone "print station" PC or install the free AutoCAD viewer and use it to PLOT while you work in AutoCAD doing other tasks.
