In my 3D drawing, I am working on the back side. When I rotate the view cube upside down, I see that the back side of the view cube is upside down. Now, when I use shift+MMB to change my view, the view cube immediately flips over to right-side-up. I'm am not able to view an item at my desired angle because the 3D environment restricts my movement in this way. Can I disable this feature and allow the view to be rotated without restriction in any direction?

The miiddle mouse button references the 3dorbit command which is constrained for certain 3D rotations. The 3dforbit is not constrained. After invoking the cui command, try redefining the middle mouse button from:

To:

With this change you can use Shift-MMB to place AutoCAD into 3d Free Orbit mode and you can use the left mouse button to control 3d orbital rotations without constraints.

Thank you. This does what I want to some degree. I won't be leaving it on the shift+MMB command, as I won't use it nearly as often as I'd use the default 3DOrbitTransparent command.

If there is a way to remove constraints on the 3DOrbitTransparent command, I'd still like to hear them.

Attached is my drawing and an screen grab of what I'm hoping to accomplish. Notice that the view cube is upside down.

As you have discovered, bit the 3dorbit and 3DOrbitTransparent commands limit rotation about the horiztontal axis to 180°. If you only have an occasional need for fully uncontrained 3D view rotation assign the 3dforbit command to Ctrl Shift MMB or to a menu item.

Hi @ShetEE

Here's a way to rotate your model upside down.

1. Use 3DFORBIT command. If you prefer the Ribbon, click the ICON from the dropdown.

Image-1

2.You'll get a green orbit circle. To get going, make sure your model is in the middle of your screen and don't zoom-in too close.

Image-2

3. Put your cursor in the middle of the circle then click-and-drag, slowly, keeping the cursor close to the center of the circle. You can switch from zooming to panning. Careful, if your cursor is outside of the circle when you drag, your model might fly off-screen and you don't want that. You can easily rotate your model so it's upside down.

Image-3

4. When you want to use drawing or modeling commands, exit 3DFORBIT by right-clicking=>Exit. When you exit, your 'current' viewing angle will be maintained.

Image-4

5. To return to regular Home Base view hit the top panel of the view cube OR change the view in upper left corner to 'Top.'

Image-5

After practicing, you can pick your own pivot point and zoom/pan really fast.

3DFORBIT does allow for the upside down view, but it doesn't work as seamlessly as 3DORBIT. By this I mean, it's a separate tool that isn't the simple click and drag like 3DORBIT. If it is possible to tweak 3DORBIT to allow this move, then I won't need to utilize a second, less ideal tool to do this when desired. If it's not possible to tweak 3DORBIT in this manner, then I will gladly use 3DFORBIT.
