So I wanted to officially ask for it be passed on to be fixed.

Issue: Layout tabs at bottom of screen. If you want to copy a Layout for a new page. You have to right click on the layout tab and pick the "Move or Copy" options, then select the layout tab again and check box the "Create a copy" box, then press "OK".

The outcome is a new layout tab, in front of the 1 you copied... And it's named with a xxx (2). (see image)

Improvement request:

1. When you copy the Layout, it goes behind the layout you copied.

2. Additionally, you can make the copy just apart of the right click function without having a dialog box. The click and drag already allows for the moving to happen without this dialog box. And if you need the move to end for bigger jobs, you can add that to the right click too.

3. Possible smart feature for following the naming scheme could be added in. For instance, mine is L-1, L-2 etc etc. If I copy L-4, it names it L-5. Or on some businesses it's IA-401, IA-501, IA-502 etc... If I copy IA-502, it can auto name it IA-503. If the naming scheme is too complicated, then the user can just keep it default for xxx (2) etc. or if the naming scheme can't figure it out, it'll default to the xxx (2) etc.

Final words:

I'm making this request b/c this is a typical thing I have to do on every project over the past 10 years... I don't have a plugin or anything that makes these automatically and our templates can't estimate this good enough for all the custom projects we work on here. So it's just simple to request it and get it done.

PS: If I submitted this in the wrong place, please direct me to where I should post this, thanks. 🙂

I like the CTRL+Left Click method of copying layout tabs; allows you to essentially drag and drop where they need to be. Doesn't handle your naming issue, but makes copying tons easier. I haven't made new layout tabs with the right click method in forever.

I wouldn't call this a bug. You are asking for improved functionality. Augi's wish list is probably the best place for your request.

My favorite is that rare glitch where you delete a tab and you can't recreate it because it say's it already exists. Example: You have four tabs, Model, A100, A101, and A102. You delete A101, duplicate A100, then rename it to A101, and AutoCAD say's the name already exists. Does not happen often, but when it does, you'll never be able to get that code back.
