Hi all,

I'm not sure what I have done but I now have a problem with offsetting objects. beforehand, I could use the offset command, type in the distance, enter/click and then pick the next line and choose a new offset distance. But now an X and Y option appears and i cannot just type in a new distance. To add a new distance I have to cancel the command and start it again.

I have no idea what setting I have changed but it never use to do this on my current computer and it doesnt do this on the university computers either. Below are a few screenshots of the options available after the first offset click and after inputting a distance and choosing another line.

any help to get my settings back to how they were will be much appreciated.

thanks

Hi,

welcome @forums.autodesk.com!

>> beforehand, I could use the offset command, type in the distance, enter/click

>> and then pick the next line and choose a new offset distance

Which version of AutoCAD are you running now and which one do you speak about when you say "beforehand"

I have now tried it back to AutoCAD 2010 and after the distance was entered the loop "select object" "show side" "select object" "show side" was in 2010 the same as in current AutoCAD 2017. So I guess you had a customization/tool/... and so your own offset function?

using version 2016... its the same version as always but I must have done something i was unaware of because it was working the way i liked it. However, now it doesn't.

In regards to the tool. I have only recently downloaded AutoCAD this year and had never used it before. Also havn't downloaded any extras. I can upload photos screenshots from the uni computers of how the command works tomorrow.

>> my home workstation was working the same way as the workstations at uni.

Then please let us know which version and which type of AutoCAD is installed at your uni's workstation.

Because with plain AutoCAD and without customization the OFFSET command only asks once for the distance and then (as long as the command is not interrupted/finished) it cycles between object/side/object/side...

Here is a screen cast using the University workstations. Pleaes bear with the quality as I had to use Citrix receiver to access the uni workstation while at home.

As you can see, it has a completely different option compared to the screen shots from my personal workstation, allowing me to add any distance I want at each click or not changing the distance and it reverting back to the original distance set.

This is how my personal workstation was working untill recently and I have no idea what I've done to change it.
