We have recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2016 and are having the same issues on our machines. We have very capable computers which have had no issues I the past. We do a lot of 3D modeling and it is common to for us to use the hide command inside a viewport, then switch back to ps to add centerlines/dimensions/comments while the view shows us what the dwg will look like when plotted (until you regen). It takes way too long to keep switching to print preview to see what things will look like.

With 2016 when you use hide in a viewport it partially hides the dwg but a lot of information (70%) is missing, and when you regen/regenall the screen goes nearly blank and stays like that until the dwg is closed and opened. Hardware acceleration settigns have no effect. It is really slowing us down.

I love being the beta testers for every new version of a product. We usually hold off upgrading for a year hoping the big bugs will be worked out.

I am working with AutoCAD 2016, I accidentally entered the hide command and my entire drawing disappeared. I tried to undo, unhide, unisolate but nothing would bring it back. Luckily I was able to close the file before it saved and when I opened it back up my drawing was there. Why did this happen and is there a way to bring the drawing back once this happens? I've tried this command again while playing around and I always get the same reaction. No one at my work seems to know how to fix it either and when I search the web it doesnt seem like anyone else has this problem.

I beleive this is an issue with hardware performance. The hide command is not supposed to hide your model. It is meant to suppresses the hidden lines in a 2D Wireframe visual style. Meaning it will displays objects using a wireframe representation with hides lines representing back faces. The fact that your model dissapeared completely leads me to beleive that the computer is not capable of handling that command or at least not at that given moment. Next time try to regenerate the model using the RE command, or if you have time, try to recreate the error and use the RE command. If this doesnt resolve the issue I would take a closer look at the equipment your working with. What kind of hardware/drivers are you using? Specifically RAM, Processing speed and graphics capabilities could play a role in this issue.

REGENALL command works for most of us when REDRAW or REGEN aren't enough: closing and reopening the file (with or without saving does not matter since it does not stick) will do the same for the folks who's hardware is just not up to the task with REGENALL command (regardless of what your IT said since you said it yourself no one else is having the problems at your office).

Since it's taken you two weeks to reply I suspect you survived the panic you felt back then with no repeat of the issue.

Good thought but ... Dwgs are proprietary client designs and 3d objects are created with more than one 3rd party software requiring object enablers to view. I would have to create dummy test files to post and run conversions on objects. No time for that, my clients don't pay me to de-bug software that worked the previous week. I would if I could do it quickly.

If you can recreate the problem in a .dwg file of yourself you can upload that one. Once a solution is found you can apply that same remedy to the other files.

Trying to recreate the problem can often already lead to a solution for your problems in itself, but as it is now, without an actual problem file, we cannot offer you more than some wild guesses.

If you have your viewport set to 2D wireframe the hide command simply does not function anymore in AutoCAD 2016. It may show some objects or lock your display completely. We have tested it on multiple drawings on our fastest machines, no dice.

The solution is to implement a new way to draft. Use visual styles to hide the objects in your viewport. Just change from 2d wireframe to hidden so you can see what the display will look like when it's plotted. This helps when drawing centerlines, dimensions and notes.

For me, I can report, this starts to happen when I have a reference.

If I open the reference drawing, and hide, it behaves as expected.

If I open the next drawing, with no references in it, and hide, it behaves as expected.

As soon as I reference in the first drawing, and hide, everything goes to poop.

Were you able to pinpoint the issue?

It's seems its just a new way that AutoCAD processes the hide command when you are in paper space but inside an active viewport. I did notice that with very small drawings the problem does not occur. I've adjust my work habits to use visual styles to view a viewport as hidden. There are some bugs to this method especially when zooming in/out but they are bearable.
