Dear Sir/Madam

I want to ask you something about a command.

I have a 2d drawing like this and i want to create A SECTION and A VIEW about this 2d drawing .

What commands i should use to create a section about 2d drawing and what command i should use for a view about 2d drawing?

i used the command viewbase and i recieved this window

i used the command section 2d but i recieved this window

what i must make now in order to have the resault that i want? i know that somewhere i make mistake.

The VIEWBASE (Base View) command is for creating 2D views from 3D models.

Region, Presspull or Loft, Section, then Explode.

Crazy way of doing it.

A section is done from a 3D drawing. If done from a 2D drawing, all you see is the lines from a side view. You will have to create the section yourself or draw the object in 3D and then cut the section.

Hi @Anonymous,

As all participants said, you need to create the objects in 3D (not just 2d) then use viewbase to generate all the views and sections you want..

Notice that you could have easily built the objects in 3D from the start: box instead of rectangle,cylinder (or cone or sphere) instead of circle, polyline + extrude for irregular shapes.. some add and subtract to create solid and void..

Of course there are some much complicated geometries and techniques - but that doesn't seem to be the case..

The message you see is because your file doesn't have any 3d objects, so Autocad is asking for a file from Inventor..

Today i recieved in my e-mail box,this message .Ι do not know ,what commands i must use region,thicken,section,then explode or Region, Presspull or Loft, Section, then Explode.i try the seccond manner but something go wrong.My mind is little confused...

Can you sign up for a class to learn AutoCAD?

This is a professional program and deserves (requires?) a professional level of preparation.

It would be a bit difficult to learn without classroom instruction.

What book are you using to learn AutoCAD?

Autodesk as Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) all over the world, you can find one in your area from here:

As a start or as an entrance to 3D, you may want to check any of these playlists, (the newer the better)..

This one is good but a bit old, command names are the same - the icons may differ..

It seems that Autodesk has given the testing for ACP exams to another company, and with it overseeing the ATCs.. So the ATC finder on Autodesks website doesn't work anymore.. [I'm not sure, but it looks that way]

A section cannot be created from a single 2D drawing. You would need at least two 2D views or a 3D drawing. I think you would benefit most from learning how to make a 3D view from a 2D drawing using some of the techniques you already mentioned. Look for a beginners 3D course.

Hi @Anonymous,

You cannot automatically create sections from 2d plans.. You need to to have a 3d model for that..

You can deduce the section manually though from the plan and at least one more elevation (some times more).. and that skill of deducing the section manually from 2d elvation is an engineering skill not a computer one..

The videos I pointed to earlier were courses to help you learn 3d modeling so that you can create a 3d model and let Autocad deduce the section for you using the "viewbase" command and it's related commands..
