Does this behavior show up if you logon to the workstation as a different user? If so, the user profile might be corrupt.

One of the workstations in my office will only show the start tab and one drawing tab even if he has just two drawings open. He has all kinds of room for more tabs to appear, but AutoCAD puts the extra drawings into the overflow double down arrow button. Does anyone have a solution for showing more than just one drawing tab at a time? It's easier for him to just do it the old way and use the taskbar in Windows. He is running AutoCAD 2016 on windows 7 64-bit. Any help will be appreciated, thank you!

I seems to work fine if I log on as a different user. I will have him reset his Windows 7 on Monday. I do see on his computer that there are many things in Windows that do not seem to work correctly so reseting his windows may indeed fix ALL of his problems.

Is there a variable that controls when overflow takes over? On my machine it kind of does the same thing. It shows 3 open drawings and there is plenty of room for a 4th, but it puts it in the overflow.

Hi wgoenen,

This is good news! I hope the reset will fix the problem for the other workstation too.

As far as the qty of filetabs being displayed, I am not aware of a variable that sets this so it is likely determined by current display size and a registry setting.

I am glad that the problem appears to be resolved. Please update your post with the results of the reset.

So, for some reason his AutoCAD was opening up 2 instances. He closed AutoCAD and went to reset as you wanted us to try. It said there was still another instance running. Using Task manager he forced the 2nd instance to shut down. When he loaded AutoCAD after that, the overflow issue stopped happening. So, your solution caused us to find the problem. If the problem comes back he will try the reset. Thank you for your help!
