I don't think you can set up a predefined attribute to read an xref name in a block to be inserted. How can the program know which xref to choose? You can select the xref name afterwards as an object type. In the following image '12071 details - box culvert' and '12071 details - Concrete Joints' are xref'd files. The others are block in those files.

This image shows the options from sheet sets that can be used as place holders with no possibility to reference xrefs. It may be a 3rd party solution, a solution using property sets or lisp exists. I would post on the C3D customization forum for help with that latter.

Hello - I'm trying create a field in my drawing title label block that would show the name of the source file that contains the detail view.

I've tried using filename but it just provides the name of the sheet file, not the detail (xref) file.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi @paullimapa - Thank you for the response. I guess that is what I'm asking though I don't see from the link how to actually implement the solution. I'm not sure how to associate with the object. Obviously having to "link" this each time would not make this useful. I plan on using sheet set manager's Place Callout Block to generate the view and associated drawing title / tag

Place view label block labels the view, what you are asking for and name the view automatically. Call out blocks are to reference the view on other sheets.

Oops. "Placing a view" automatically inserts the correct Xref containing the view so I figured there would be a way to extract the Xref filename with a field. Maybe not? Sorry if I'm confusing in my explanation.

Thanks @cwr-pae for the follow up. I assume you are right. The reason I thought this would work is that when you "place on sheet" you are selecting the view in an Xref so therefore I assumed that the parent Xref filename could be extracted. The view exists within an Xref.

Thanks for your input.
