I am trying to model a piping system where I am placing objects in different layers so that I can easily change their colours to make them stand out. The problem I am having is part of the piping is fading out (figure 1). When I move it out side the tank it returns to normal (figure 2). The weird part is that the same pipes on the other side of the tank are not doing that (figure 4) which are an exact copy (and mirror).

I tried redoing, but the same results. The objects are not interfering with any other objects. I do not understand.

There is another set of pipes that are doing the same thing as well as box that I am using to represent a sheet of metal.

Any ideas?

Here is a sample of the file. Sorry about the late reply I was away from my computer for the weekend. As you will see there are 2 pipes on each side that do this. I don't understand why. When I saved it as a new file, all of the pipes that are inside the tank started doing the same thing, where they are faded out.

Also, yes I am in X-RAY because there are pipes elsewhere (which again, are now doing the same thing) that I need to be able to see, but they are behind the tank wall.

Hi,

from first post:

>> The problem I am having is part of the piping is fading out

From your last post

>> yes I am in X-RAY because there are pipes elsewhere

Visual style "X-Ray" has it's type of transparency by itself, so whenever one object is behind another one it will be displayed like faded.

So my question now is: what is the difference between what you are seeing as "faded out" but unusual to the visual style.

For me the screenshot 1.PNG looks normal for this type of visual style.

In case it's a display issue you always can check to disable the hardware acceleration and see if that makes something better.

The way it is fading out the pipes is different then how it changes other pipes to show that they are behind another object. I changed the view around and this it does faded them out when the are behind the tank wall, but it is in addition to this other fade, making them rather difficult to see.

Attached bellow is the file with the rest of the pipes in it. On my computer it is consistently showing the very bottom pipe with the part that is inside the tank as faded and the part that is outside as unfaded, while most of the other pipes in the tank are not faded at all.

At first I thought that this might have something to do with it cutting though the sides of the tank, but I double checked and the red pipes never actually touch anything else at all. So I don't think that that is what is causing the problem. Also with the red pipes try moving them and then moving them back (or ctrl-z).

Thanks so much for all of your efforts in trying to help!

I am at a loss as I too can not reproduce this.

Purge did remove some zero-length objects but Audit found on problems.

Does this still show up in a viewport?

What happens if you adjust draworder or copy past your model into a new drawing?

Tried the above suggestions. Unfortunately none of them worked for me. I tried purge, viewports, drawing order (all of them), and copying to a new drawing.

In layouts I used the realistic view for the top red pipes and was able to make a cut, then blown-up detailed drawing (1:50), for the bottom, making x-ray unnecessary. But the drawing came out very pixelated.

Since you guys can't seam to duplicate the problem on your computers, that might mean that no one else in the office will have the problem either. I will test it on a coworker's computer to see if the problem still persists.

I have read a post once and there were some issues which caused 3D solids to not display correctly in things before 2015. It didn't manifest like your problem but for shot in the dark you can try it.

The solution was to open the drawing in 2015 and save it. This forced the object to be re-created. Do you have access to a 2015 install?

I would offer to save the file for you but the current machine i have access to has a student version installed and that would change your file to a student file which is undesirable.

No I do not have access to one. Most people at work are using 2014 or earlier. Thanks for the offer though! And thanks again so much for everyone's efforts.

OK. I tried on a few other machines. Those that also had CAD 2014 also showed the same problem, but those with 2013 did not have that problem. Thanks so much for all of your help!
