Inserting a row in a table

Hi:

I have a table in AutoCAD that was imported from Excel. Now I have to edit the table and I have to add a row however if I highlight the cell that is going to have a new row below the software does not allowing me. As soon the cell is selected I do right click and the option Rows>Insert below is grayed out. Actually the options in the panels Rows and Columns (in the Table Cell contextual menu) are grayed out as well.

How can I add a row just below this or any other cell.

I am attaching the CAD file. The cell that says "CONTENTS TO DUPLICATE" is the the one I want with an extra arrow below.

Just in case: I am wondering to add a row as a copy of the row where my highlighted cell is sitting. So in the case of the file the new row is going to have the same cell with "CONTENTS TO DUPLICATE" as a text. Cheers

Rafeal,

Do you copy the area in the excel spread sheet and then paste special, selecting autocad entities into your drawing?

I use this method for sheet indexes.

You type DATALINK and redefine the cells that you have selected originally in excel.

or in the future select additional empty cells and then when you update your table you will not have to redefine your boundaries

Hi Jim:

I am not copying pasting from excel. The CAD file that I am editing with the spreadsheet inside has lost the connection with the original excel file. So basically I can use only CAD commands to edit the table.

Have you tried to right click on the table ...

there may be an option to select "add row"

HI Jim:

I selected the table and I got different options according if I select the full table or the cell.

If I select the full table:

Right click>Rows>(Two options, insert above or insert below) They add a row either at the top or the bottom of the table not in the location I need

If I select the cell

Right click>Rows>(The same two options insert above or insert below) They are grey out. Besides the Panels Rows and Columns are greyed out as well

So it is the situation I have. Just in case you need more details, please let me know

have you tried to see if the cells are locked.

Hi @RalphBrown99,

Does the original Excel file still exist? This is the file that the Datalink is looking for:

N:\Client\Teck_Resources_Ltd\Quebrada Blanca\02_DATA\Tabular\Process\PFD Mass Balance.xlsx

If it does, you can select your table in AutoCAD, rt-click and Select Data Links>Edit Data Link:PFD Mass Balance. This would re-estabilsh the connection.

If the Excel file no longer exists, then select a cell in the table, rt-click and select Datalink, select the PDF Mass Balance , rt-click and then select Delete.

Now you should be able to select a cell, rt-click and go to Rows and then FINALLY insert.

Hi John:

As I promised, I am replaying you in regards the excel file -add row problem-. There has been a lot of ex-changes and now everything is confused. Go back to the beginning, I can not add a row in the spread sheet that I have in AutoCAD. The original file in excel is gone and actually I do not need it any more due the edits that I am doing now in AutoCAD. I check your video and I confuse you but I want to focus in the purpose to add a row in the table. Do you need the CAD file

I have attached a Screencast that shows how I went through this process. First you will notice that I ran Audit and Purge as your file had quite a few errors in it.

Next I went through the steps outlined previously. I did show how to also "Unmerge" the first cell in case that helps you.

Hi John:

First of all, soooorry for the long replay. Second, thanks for the video. Finally I could add a row in the part of the table that I need. Your video with the mouse highlighting either right or left click is super-useful.

I feel that the key part is highlight the cell>left click>Data Links>Detach Data Link

It makes available the command highlight the cell>left click>Rows>Insert Below

The first command make my Rows and Panels available so it is possible to do the edits I need.
