I have a 2d drawing in model space showing the front view only. The Viewcube shows that view as TOP. If I extrude from this TOP view my part will move in the Z direction. What I would like to do is have the WCS Top view be looking down on what is now the BACK view in the WCS. I am aware that I can just change the UCS and make this happen, but is it possible to make what is now the BACK view the TOP in the WCS?

Hi Naldrich,

Click on the viewcube, select "set current view as..." and choose FRONT. This will make your "back" view the top.

Or, Click on the view (on the view cube) that you want to be the top. Once it orients, right click on the view cube and select "Set Current View As..." and choose Top.

Or, you could orient to the Back view, then type UCS, Set, View (from the command prompt).

Hope this helps,

Thanks Kenney,
When I orient the viewcube to the back view which I want to be the top, there is no option to select "Set Current View As".. only choice is set current view as home, Using Autocad 2017 3D btw.
Thanks for responding.

Nick R.

There are a variety of ways to accomplish what you want to do.

set your view to the Desired top view make sure the ucs is set to that view.

Then using Ctl-Shift+C pick a desired basepoint that you can use for reference or just use 0,0,0. select all the objects you wish to be converted to the new position.

switch back to World ucs, set it to plan view, then Ctl+V and paste the objects into the real plan view. Now use ERASE Previous, and you are done.

another method would simply be to set your view to Left, then set your ucs to that view and then use the Rotate command pick your objects, select a good base point and for the angle use -90 degrees. Shift back to World UCS and plan view should be correct.

hopefully that helps
