Hi there,

If you have a raster image in a drawing and need to rotate it, hou can you do that?

Thank you.

I don't think you can rotate an ole image... See >>this<< However, if you have raster design, you could insert the image an rotate it without an issue.

if you use imageattach, just rotate it with the rotate command.

Hi @Anonymous,

Rotating an image in your drawing should be pretty straight forward.

Use Imageattach to insert your image. Then, select the edge of the image (Imageframe), RO for rotate, select a base point and then enter a new point using your mouse or enter and angle by typing.

The exception is OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) images. While these will shift positions using the rotate command they will not actually rotate. A workaround for these images is to create a snapshot (I use the Windows Snipping Tool) and attach that image. Then it is no longer an OLE object and should allow you to rotate it properly.

Embedding sometimes does not behave for me so, on the safe side,
insert the image (/PDF) into a blank drawing, Save As that blank drawing,
then insert that (former) blank drawing into the destination file.

As a side note: Position the image where the rotation/scale point is at the origin.
Both scaling and rotating will occur from the origin, thru the Properties pane in
the destination file.

Once inside the destination file, BEDIT the block and set explode
to no and scale uniformly to yes from inside the Properties pane.

Close BEDIT.

Now one can do as they please.

???

When rotating is there a way to see a preview of the rotation? There used to be a way to rotate an image and drag a line to fine tune the rotation... Im trying to do this today and after running the rotation command it just wants to arbitrarily guess a point. Is there a setting to turn back on the preview of the rotation?

Yesterday I was able to see a "ghosted" preview of the imagery and line it up with pretty nice precision. Today this is not working and I cant figure out what got turned on or off. I was just using the same tool in my drawing on a point cloud - we are forensically trying to translate data to each other from multiple sources, some that were not controlled. For some reason it is not working on the orthomosaic anymore.

You should be able to get what you want with ROTATE and the Reference option. Give it a base point, then R for Reference, and for the reference direction you can pick from the same base point to the meaningful location in the image [which will be visible], then take that to whatever your target direction is.
