The drawing now shows different situations, one situation is for straight segments with angles less than 29° ... they will not be shown as filled, that was always the same, I guess to avoid long, long peaks from the corners.

The situation/transition between straight segment and curved segment seems to be a bit more tricky (from the point of mathematical view). But sorry to say, without assigning different segment widths to the straight segment and arc segment I can't get this type of corner working with a constant polyline-width.

I am trying to join polylines and arcs, and polylines to other polylines. The joints have these pointed corners and I can't figure out how to make them nice smooth corners. The attached jpg is of my problem.

I can make them smooth by leaving all the plines separate and extended them to create a clean look, but I would really like to be able to have the clean look with all the plines joined together.

Hi,

looks like the segments of the polylines do have different widths, but to be sure we need the DWG, not a screenshot from that.

What you can try: select one of the polylines, and within the property window change the "global width" and see if the display changes to a better one.

Alfred,

I can not share the file without a signed NDA. In the jpeg both the straight Pline and arc both have a the same global width. I need to join the arc and pline together to be able to change with global width of the arc. Once joined the joints look like so instead of a smooth transition.

When starting a new file I get the same joints. I have tried Pline types 0, 1 & 2 and they all give me the same result.

I am working in AutoCAD 2012 so I can not open the file previously attached.

Here is a sample file out of my CAD. It was a new file and I only drew an arc and a polyline, joined them together and changed their global width. I'd like to get a corner that looks like the one of the 2 polylines joined together but when I am joining an arc to a polyline.

I believe that is just in the nature of Polylines with width where a line segment meets an arc segment non-tangentially. If you can, put short tangent line segments on the ends of the arc segments before the bends.

This is the way I had been doing it joining originally. I was hoping to be able to join an arc to a non tangent line and have a nice corner, but it seems that the math behind it is too complicated and forces me to do it this way.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

My solution in this case is: choose the vertex - intersection between line & arc segments, then add a new vertex, move the new vertex into old intersection, and see the result.

I realize this is an old thread but this answer may help a few folks out, s0 goes:

1. Key Point - You have to remember that pline end types and joint types are not an object property and are to be defined in the plot config file.

2. Setting the end type to ROUND and the Joint type to MITERED will do a pretty good job of removing pline joint openings that occur at angled joints.

Hope this helps a few folks out

BBest Regards

-Tim C.

When making pline end pline with 'close'. If pline has thickness all corner will be sharp.

I believe one option is to ensure the line width is 0 the offset with another line at the with you want - keep both lines.

then add a hatch fill - make sure the both plines are closed
