Welcome to these Forums!

I'm not sure about your first issue [maybe a more detailed explanation would help], but for this one.... If you call up Trim and hit Enter to select everything in the drawing for cutting edges, or if you have selected a lot of things running in various directions, AND if you have the edge mode on Extend, you could have that problem, depending on the relationship of other things. When you start the Trim command, does it say "Edge-None" or "Edge=Extend"? If it says "Extend," after selecting cutting edges, choose the Edge option and set it to "No extend." [Or change the EDGEMODE System Variable to 0.] Read about Trim in Help for more explanation of the options.

Hi and Welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

Since there is no images or CAD file attached to describe and follow the problem,i'll guess the follow:

regarding your first issue i'm afraid that you're drawing over a turned off layer.

the second issue maybe your lines have a Z factors.to check that just draw two crossed lines in a new drawing and see what happen.

Good Luck...
