Hatch problem cannot deselect inner hatch

Example: I draw a square in a square. Using the hatch tool and select all the squares. Normally the inner square is empty and only the space between the squares (around the inner square) is hatched.

How to solve this (autocad 2016, mac)

in hatch dialog click on lower right arrow (pointing to the right side) to expand more options, if not already expanded.

then on the right hand side find island detection and check it / uncheck it, or select the solution you would like

If you type H and press enter you have selected the Hatch option. Zoom into the location you need to hatch and only select the location between the two squares that you want hatched. If you find that the whole location is hatching then you have locations that need to be connected. I say zoom because sometimes if the location is small it will want to hatch everything and you'll run into the same issue.

Sorry I forgot to say, if you wanna deselect the inner hatch select the location with your lasso and then type X. then press enter. the hatches should all separate from one another so you can delete whatever you want by selecting it and type E then enter.

i am talking about hatch dialog, not hatch ribbon

as mentioned, type "H" or "HATCH" in command prompt and you should get hatch dialog, something like this:

Hi @Anonymous,

Did you get this to work with all of the help in this thread? If you have Island detection turned on and it still isn't being detected, it might mean that the "island" is not a closed area.

If that is the case, try using the Boundary command to create a new island for you hatch.

You can always use the Bounderies that says Add: Pick points
