Find and Replace Slow on Exit

Is there a reason why when exiting the Find and Replace dialog box (clicking "DONE" or clicking the "X") it takes a long time to close (12 seconds)? The drawing I have has about 20,000 objects in it. Of those objects, are 135,00 blocks that have one attribute which have been selected only and problem still persists. Even if you run the command and exit before searching anything, it still will take a long time to close. It doesn't make any sense because the actual searching only takes a second.

My computer has a Intel quad core 2.5 Ghz processor and 32 GB of ram.

AutoCAD version is...? Is it fully patched and updated?
Windows version is...?
Is this a recent problem? Or limited to this one file?
Not seeing the issue here.

AutoCAD 2017, fully updated, patched

Only happens on files with many objects, i.e. 20,000. The more objects, the longer it takes to exit out of the dialog box. It has done this for at least of couple of years.

Please open attached file and perform a find and replace and immediately close out. It takes my computer 4 seconds.

4-seconds? You said 12-seconds: 12 is a big deal, 4 just means your AutoCAD session is busy.

Do you really line up 30-thousand blocks in one single file as an array? Really? That may be a taxing process, it's very unusual to say the least. Maybe its time you explored exrefs or something.

I did say 12 seconds when the file was more complex. To make an example file, I simply took one block and copied it 10,000 times.

I don't understand why AutoCAD would take 4 seconds to exit out of Find and Replace after doing nothing? If the file is empty, the closing process takes less than a second. It seems like there is a bug considering it takes less time to load the command and search than to close out of the dialog box.

To address the second part of your response, I was just making an example file I could send for you to test out. What I did was unusual.

In that case, with 30,000 attributes to change in your sample file, 4-seconds is to be expected. That's nothing you can fix. I suspect we all can replicate the 12-seconds in your full file as well if it also had 30,000 attributes you needs to change all at once.

That's a huge database.

I just don't understand why it can load the Find and Replace, search for something in a fraction of time it takes to close the dialog box. It would seem it should be the other way around. Plus, if you search for nothing, it still takes a long time. In another large file at our office, it takes 2 seconds to search and 35 seconds to close.

I have also endured/wondered about this problem for the past couple years and am finally fed up with it 😐

Very frustrating when I have to find/replace a lot of block attribute texts and it increases the necessary time by 10x...

I depends on how complex your files are: post a sample DWG file with this issue, lets see if we all have the same problem in the file that you do.

I think the find is slow because it automatically regens the drawing on close.

The REGENAUTO doesn't affect this.

You can test it with any (of your) files which needs more than 0 second for a regen.

Stop time for REGEN and you will see it is ~ same time between [Exit]find&replace and your fully controle of the program.

So The REGEN time is the same as the exit time for the find and replace.
