Hello there!

Thanks for the link, I totally agree with Libbya, I've witnessed the same behaviour of the parametric feature, they are unstable and not fit for projects like mine. I managed to mend the block a few times, but when I recall, that I need to add something, any further modifications lead to a total mess again and again.

I'm just wandering, do the CAD developers know about this kind of issue? Are they planning to mend it, or maybe there is no point in waiting for that! 🙂

Any suggestions - maybe some other soft I can use in order to get the job done?

Parametric Constraints keep disappearing

Hello, dears!

My question is about parametric constraints. I've been trying to create some nice parametric drawing, a drawing of beam reinforcement, which has to be done over and over again, for each span and section dimensions.

Ok, now straight to the problem - I studied the parametric method and had no problem creating the drawing, until the parametric constraints started randomly disappearing, both geometrical and dimensional, making it a total hell, trying to find which one is gone, replacing it with a new one, then losing another one and e.t.c.

I can't exactly say when it started - what quantity of constraints was in the drawing, when it started, probably noticed it while having around 100 constraints.

Anybody heard about such this happening? Any suggestions?

P.s. Same issue while working in Autocad 2014 and 2017.

Any chance they are hidden? do they reappear if you hit the show all button?

Thanks for welcoming me and thanks for quick answer!

No, constraints are not just hidden, they don't exist, they get deleted and the whole mechanism of how the parametric scheme should work gets damaged ( there are deep connections between the constraints ) and I keep searching all 100 of them in order to find which one is gone ( sometimes 2,3,4 or even more ). This is very frustrating and the whole method loses value - it is basically easier to draw with classic method - beam by beam...

Its a pity, I really like the idea of making one good sample an then just changing a few numbers in order to get all the beam drawings done!

Any other thoughts?

The block is too bloated and considering parametric constraints's unstable nature, the behavior that you describe is "normal".

See this thread and Lybbia's comment for more explanation : http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks/any-good-advice-on-understanding-when-how-to-use-parametrics-in/td-p/6744717
